no - its not the album sales. em and 50 sell way more than jay ever does and they arent #1 on the list .
i have no problem with this list - i dont see how you can argue that any of these guys dont belong on the top 10 list but to each his own.
And with the third pick - I made the earth sick

          Pretty standard top ten list.

I dunno about Ice Cube anymore, he hasn't put out anything quality in a decade. I'd also put Ghostface on there. And like others said, thank God they don't have Eminem in the Top 3.

This always cracks me up. I remember back in 95' before Pac's death, NOBODY was saying he was a top lyricist. He was definetly popular but no one would rate him over a Rakim or KRS back then. Its funny how dying makes you a better rapper.

I'm not saying that happens for every one but it happened for pac (and big to a smaller extent). I'm just thinking back and I never heard Pac being mentioned as the greatest rapper or even in the top 5 before he died.

I agree with aholbert 100%. Tupac in no way shape or form is to be considered the #1 rapper of all time, no way. I respect his passion for his words but his words were not the best out there. He shouldn't even be in the top 10. For my money, no one, and I mean no one, touches Kool G rap. That by far is the best I have ever heard do it, and I have heard them all, from Grand master Caz on up. I do think Rakim should be placed higher, Run from Run DMC should be on the list ahead of alot of those mentioned, and LL should definitely be higher. The DOC should get honorable mention along with Slick Rick. Jay-z, definitely top 5. Oh, how can I forget Melle Mel, definitely one of the best MC's to ever live.

I still don't see how Pac is better then B.I.G. dead or alive. If we're talking about rapping as an art form; Pac isn't even top 10. 2Pac is a packaged MC, he's got a background of violence and "thug life" which affects his status as a "music" legend. I'm not saying the man didn't have talent; nobody can touch Pac in terms of passion but the dude never had that 5th element to his music. There is/was no wordplay in any of his music; he told it the way it was, no puns, no metaphors, no nothing. I can honestly say I've never pressed rewind on my cd player on a pac record...I didn't have to, his message was loud and clear. Maybe that's what makes him a legend, but to me, I laugh at the fact that he's ranked higher then Rakim, Nas, B.I.G, KRS-ONE, BIG F'N DADDY KANE(Most underrated MC EVER) and Jay-z. The more I list to pac now, the more he slides down on my personal list of the greatest MC's.

As an MC, no doubt. But as a (for lack of a better term, Rap Icon) you have to go with Jay-z. Jay-z has a better mass appeal because he converses more than he raps. Nas straight up rips it and no one does it better or should I say not many do it better. Nas is more my style, but I think Jay-z makes better albums. But Kool G rap, kills them both.

If Pac And Big were still alive they would be 1 and 2 Jay would still be top Ten..But for the cat that said nobody was feelin Pac till he died does not know what he is talking bout when I was in colege in 95 cats use to actually fight about how sweet pac was I mean grown men fighting over 2pac it was crazy. Pac career was cut short but he is the equivalent of James Dean. It was his passion and the way he delievered that separated him from others, as for Biggie u saw his lyrics when he rapped and the only other man that could do that for me was Kool G Rap. Only reason G rap was not in the top ten cuz he never had that #1 smash like the others did..
