Neil Young - Living With War

His new album, recorded in a short period of time and he put it streaming online. I hear it will come out May 9. It is streaming on that link in full. It is good, definitely has a political style to it.

Yeah, I heard the first 2 tunes. I love the early 70's era of Neil Young, like Hey Hey, My My, Cinamann Girl, Then Needle and the Damage Done, etc... and late 80's/early 90's with Ragged Glory with Crazy Horse.

I heard it's suppose to be like Ragged Glory. I'm excited about this one. Neil Young can do a lot of different styles of music. Folk, country, rock, etc......

I haven't listened to much Neil Young music, but I've been wanting to pick up an album of his and Buffalo Springfield's s/t album.

Yeah, like I give a damn what some Canadian musician thinks about our government.

Neil Young doesn't live in Canada. He's lived in the US for 40 years. That means he's a US tax paying person.

He has a right to voice his opinion. We , of course, have the same right to not to listen to it.

He also went into the studio after the Kent State shootings with CSN and produced the song, Ohio.

Just wanted to clarify he's lived in the US for 40 years.

That's cool. He's still a Canadian musician and, as such, I'm not really all that interested in what he has to say. He's an entertainer and I know all the entertainers feel it's their civic duty to voice their politics, but I wish they'd stick to entertaining and keep their political opinions to themselves regardless of what they are. With few execptions, they're mostly incredibly uninformed and as an example, if you read the lyrics of Young's "Let's Impeach the President" song, you'll see it's basically nothing but a bunch of intellectually lazy leftist talking points like he spent a day watching CNN scribbling down buzzwords he heard and transformed them into a song. Whoopee.

Like you said, I have the right not to listen to it and I plan on exercising that right.

If that's the case, then I'm all over this record. "Ragged Glory" is one of my favorite albums of all time, by any artist. Simply incredible. Just Neil and Crazy Horse on a four-track in his home studio. No album ever has been more aptly titled.

              Take care,

The album goes on sale digitally May 2nd.

I think the entertainer sticking to their job is a weak argument, but to each their own.

And entertainers using their celebrity to force their political views/beliefs isn't weak? They now how impressionable young adults are and they exploit the hell out of it.

What kind of young adult knows who Neil Young is?

But how is an artist expressing his beliefs or views on religion technically any different from them expressing their beliefs or views on subjects like love/sex/relationships, religion, other artists, corporations, the industry, or any of the other range of topics that songs are written about? If you are going to say an artist expressing their thoughts on politics is lame, where do you draw the line for other subjects? Why are some things acceptable while others are not? An artist has a right to express themselves through their craft, just as you have a right to choose not to listen to it.

I've re-read my post five times and couldn't find Neil Young anywhere in it. Amazingly enough, I couldn't find his name in Skerik's post either.....

Because people in their positions have no idea what goes on behind closed doors and why decisions are made for the best of our country. They are speaking out of pure ignorance. I'm sure they have their own experiences with love/sex/relationships, religion, and other artists, but they don't diddly squat when it comes to what and how things affect our country and their decision making.
