Ok so I'm a complete and utter comic n00b but I took the plunge on the Marvel unlimited offer that's currently 99 cents for the first month with code...

I'd like to get into Spidey, Avengers, and X-Men to begin...what are the "essentials" or best editions that I need to start with?

Wish DC did something like this, I'd go head first into Batman.

Believe me i am in the same boat as you but i can help ya a little bit I would suggest reading amazing spider man #698-700 because something shocking happens to lead into the superior spider man

I know with their marvel now they've done a soft reboot of their comic lines so I would suggest that for xmen and avengers

Older content wise House of M is worth a read along with the civil war arc

Age of Apocalypse and Age of X are fun arcs too.

BTW for anyone wanting to get into Batman now would be um, an interesting time to get into it though not truly the easiest time. Snyder's mega arc Year Zero just concluded so I expect that to be collected in TPB form in a couple months. It's a very good story but I felt it kinda meandered at the midway point.

There's a weekly book that's running for a year called Batman Eternal which is setting up a new status quo in Gotham and for Batman. It's heading into its 17th issue tomorrow I believe so there'd be a bit of backtracking you'd need to do but I think it's worth it.

Snyder's next arc on Batman however will be trying to fill the gap and is called End Game. It's set after the events of Eternal so unfortunately there may be spoilers in that.

Caught up with my JL books (with exception to JLU). I like the Lex Luthor storyline, and the hunt for the green power ring. Curious to see what Lex has cooking for Capt Cold.

BTW what happened to killer frost post FE?

Been reading the Wolverine comic with the countdown to death lately. Pretty good read. Certainly enjoying it. Now that I'm entirely caught up with the Walking Dead comics, I figured I had time to read another comic book. And being a huge fan of Logan, I figured it was a good place to start, and to go through the Death of Wolverine and Logan Legacy issues, should continue to be a good read.

I got to admit the Wolverine series has been my favorite of the X-books right now. This has actually been a very well done and organic lead in to a major character's death. If only death mattered more in comics it'd have a lot more impact but in terms of craftsmanship I have to say this is one of the best "death of" events in a long time.

I'll pick up the death issue and a trade of the lead-in, I just haven't been able to get into wolverine since they put him in this new suit.

If you mean that suit with all the armor and guns etc etc than you shouldn't have to worry about that eyesore too much. It's used heavily at the beginning of the lead in but it's basically nonexistent now or if it is still used, they've scaled back on all the armor and crap.

                          Spoiler

But the 'Death of Wolverine' is a 4 issue series coming out every week in September. Followed by a 7 issue series called 'Logan Legacy', which is supposed to be different mutants looking back and reflecting on their time with Wolverine.

Yeah, I read the first couple of issues, thought the source of his new duds was kinda neat. Probably pick up the September run.

I think it's been ok, but still doesn't beat killable. Magneto is easiest the best of the X-books though, and All-New has been a treat too.

I agree but I kinda see Killable as the set-up to one long "Death of Wolverine" arc. It almost feels like they should've just gone ahead with this death event in that story rather than kind of repeating the same storyline beats in another drawn out arc but like I said I think this has been quite organic and well organized.
