I have Killing Joke and The Long Halloween and one of the archives hardcover books which includes some of the Jokers first appearances, but that is all. I've heard Batman: Arkham Asylum is really good, but thats all.

Also, whats up with Batman & Robin: All Star? How far along are they?
    This one is awesome:

It's a one-shot, about the length of The Killing Joke, a little shorter I guess. You'll probably have to get it through eBay though, it's rather limited.

Batman and Robin are actually only at #5 if you can believe it. Jim Lee is really slowing it down. Issue #5 was pretty good though, my favorite so far of all of them.

I know, Lee is killing me! Not so much on that title, but on Wildcats. I've heard the online DC video game he is working on is really slowing him down. I wish he'd hand B&R and Wildcats off to another artists. I like Lee's style a lot, but there are other great ones out there too.

I had no idea The Man Who Laughs was going to be so hard to find. I actually picked it up on sale a couple of Free Comic Days ago for like $2. I had always kicked myself for not getting it when it first came out, but was thrilled when I saw it on the shelf that day.

Told ya about the influence, SPTO.

By the way. I ordered Batman: Mask of the Phantasm off of Amazon. I've only seen it once and that was about 10 years ago, so I figured it was high time that I finally pick it up; especially since I love TAS so much.

A couple of inquiries. How are:

          Batman: The Haunted Knight
          Batman: Under the Hood
          Batman: Gotham by Gaslight
          Batman: Dark Knight Dynasty

I've never seen Mask of the Phantasm before, I've heard it is great. I think I'll add it to my Blockbuster Q right now

I've read The Haunted Knight and Under the Hood. The Haunted Knight is really good, it's one of my favorites. I just totally dig the way Tim Sale draws Batman and I'm a fan of Jeph Loeb as well.

Under the Hood comes in two volumes and I enjoyed it a good bit when it was coming out. The end of it was right as Infinite Crisis started, so there wasn't much resolution to the story, but I enjoyed it. When this story first started I was a bit surprised at who and why they were bringing back this particular character, but since then, I've liked all the stories through out the DC Comics that have had Red Hood in them except for Bruce Jones' Nightwing run last year. I think DC has some big things planned for Red Hood during this Countdown weekly going on now, so I'd recommend you reading it. I think you should read A Death in the Family first though.

I'm thinking about picking up Batman: Turning Point this week at the comic shop. It focuses on Batman and Commissioner Gordon's relationship throughout the Bat's career. I usually go for the Commissioner Gordon stories, but I haven't heard much about this one.

Batman: Gotham By Gaslight is a TPB of the first two elseworlds tales in DC history. The first one that takes place in Victorian times where Bruce/Bats takes on Jack the Ripper is really good. I loved the resolution to the story tho some would probably find it very cliche. The mood is quite gothic and the artwork really does a great job of setting the mood.

The 2nd story in the volume isn't nearly as good IMO. It felt a bit too comic bookey and I just didn't like the villain of the piece. So in short the book is uneven for me. The first story is very good while the 2nd is also good but I couldn't really care much about it.

If you can get it for cheap i'd recommend it. I happened to have bought it on discount

There was a column by DC's editor about how some of the Earths in DC's new Multiverse are ones we might have seen before, hinting that some of the old Elseworlds stories might become some of these Earths. At the end of the year DC is releasing a Tales of the Multiverse trade that has some Batman Vampire Elseworlds stories in it, so that might be one of the new worlds brought in. The editor also hinted that the Red Son Superman story might be one of the Earths as well which is cool. There some really cool Elseworlds stories out there, I wouldn't mind seeing those characters pop up from time to time, like the Green Lantern Superman.

Wow hmmm...IIRC Red Son Superman is Superman in the USSR more or less right? I haven't read that trade but i'm familiar with the background. That would be a VERY cool concept to bring into the new multiverse.

yeah it's a good story. Superman crashes in communist Russia rather than Smallville and is a super-soldier for the Russians.

The only thing with bringing some of those Elseworlds characters into the multiverse is that some of those characters, like the Red Son Supes, you read their whole story in the Elseworlds, so it would be tricky to bring them back and make changes.

What other Elseworld stories are there? All I know of (other than the Batman ones) is the Superman: Red Son TPB. Is it just Superman in that TPB or do other DC characters make appearances?

Whats up with the latest Batman story-arc? I've heard/seen the "new" Joker and his cut smile and I've heard of the "fake" Batman that gets killed, but what else is going on and is it worth picking up the TPB when it comes out?

Actually Batman is in Red Son. It is a Russian version of Bats that hates the politics of Russia, so Superman is a villian to him. Red Son also has some of the other DC characters in it like Green Lantern and Green Arrow.

One of my favorite Elseworlds is the Superman: Last Son of Earth one and it's sequel Superman: Last Stand on Krypton, I think I've mentioned them in this thread a few pages back. This story has Earth being destroyed and Superman being rocketed to Krypton instead.

There is The Nail which is a JLA Elseworlds that is a world where the Kents didn't find baby Kal-El, so he never grew up to be Superman. There's a sequel to it called Another Nail. Both are good.

One that haven't read but is on my list to is Superman: Speeding Bullets where baby Kal-El crashes at Wayne Manor.

Of course there are the big ones like Kingdom Come and Dark Knight Returns which are good too.

Those are the ones I can think of that I liked off the top of my head.

Well there was the arc about Batman's "son" Damien from the Batman: Son of the Demon one-shot that was always considered an Elseworlds but it looks like they are throwing it in continuity now. It's a good one by the way. Anyway there was that arc, then the Joker issue that was in novel prose format. Now they are on a story about this roided up guy that's like a cross between Bane and Batman killing hookers. Also Morrison threw in some mystery about a black case book that hasn't been revealed yet. Next issue, #666, Damien is suppose to return. It's been ok. Morrison is a writer that sometimes I think is great and sometimes it isn't my cup of tea. This arc is somewhere in between. Morrison is never bad though. The art has been great though.

yeah, I think it even has the Elseworlds stamp on it. At least I think the original issues do. If mine were easy to get to I'd check, but they are stashed away somewhere, LOL. I could be mistaken though.
