I finished up the Justice story last night by Jim Krueger and Alex Ross. It was great. I was wrong in my earlier post when I said the first volume of the collected comics covers the first 6, it only covers the first 4. Two volumes are out and the final volume is due in October. Anyway, it was a great read. If you like big team events, this is it. You get all the heroes going against all the villians. The cast of the story was real similar to the old Super-friends TV show with the Hall of Justice against the Legion of Doom. I highly recomend it, although I guess the 3 volumes will run you around $40 off of amazon when the final volume is released in October. That's what I spent on the 12-single issues by the way.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
While I was at the beach, I read Batman: Haunted Knight and The Death of Superman and World Without A Superman. Haunted Knight was really good. I loved the Scarecrow and Mad Hatter stories, but "Ghosts" was just okay - not real original, but the insight was pretty cool.
The Death of Superman was alright. There wasn't much of a story, but the action was great. I kept thinking how cool it would be to see Superman fight Doomsday on the big screen. I liked World Without A Superman a lot more than TDoS as I thought that was great. I haven't started The Return of Superman yet.

If you're looking for more Superman stories and you haven't gotten Red Son yet, you might want to read Birthright. It's a recent origin story that has somewhat been done away with already, but it was good. It has some "Smallville" influences in it if that interests you.
Next month starts the Green Arrow Year One mini-series. I'm looking forward to reading that one.
Recently I've been reading a lot of Legion of Super-heroes stuff. I bought the trades for the current series and started getting the new issues. I like it a lot. I think some of the longtime Legion fans aren't too hot for the new series, but I think it has been great. What has become real interesting over the past few months is this other Legion that has appeared in the JLA/JSA crossover. This is an entirely different Legion from the one in the current continuity and it looks like they could be the pre-crisis version of the Legion since Superman remembers being in the Legion as Superboy. That concept has been done away with. With the multiverse back in DC, I guess they must be from one of the other Earths, my guess is Earth-2. I really hope DC has plans to have both this Legion and the current one in the Legion books to be explored. I know Action Comics in a few months will feature the Legion from the JLA/JSA crossover, so I'm really really looking forward to that.

RE: Death of Superman
That's probably one of the best uses of my money ever. Sure, there wasn't much of a story but the epic feel of the fight and the splash pages were quite gripping. I also really enjoyed the first half of WORLD WITHOUT A SUPERMAN but the rest of the story arc turns into typical comic book fodder afterwards.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Comic Book Fans....
The Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Special that came out yesterday by Geoff Johns was awesome. It was one of the best comics I've read in a long time, I recommend anyone even a little intersted in the Green Lanterns to read it. Of course if you do, you'll want to get the next few months' Green Lantern comics to see how it all turns out. But it was really good. The baddies that Sinestro has on his side are gonna give the Green Lanterns all they can handle.

Is anybody going to pick up the new Batman: Ego and Other Tales graphic novel?

I don't plan on buying it but I do want to read it sometime. I like Darwyn Cooke and I've read the stories from Gotham Knights that are included in this trade. I'm not that big a fan of Catwoman, but I would like to read the two Solo issues collected.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
I guess since you don't like Catwoman you haven't read Catwoman: When In Rome by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale then?
Edit: How are the Batman Black & White TPBs?Last edited by Fresh Tendrils; 07-01-2007, 09:07 PM.

Have the impressions been good for it? I really like the artwork (at least the art on the cover) and I've always been a fan of Catwoman.

Since you seem to like Tim Sale (who I think is very good), you might like Batgirl Year One. It's written by Scott Beatty and Chuck Dixon who have both got a good resume of Bat-books. Anyway, the art in it by Marcos Martin is very similar to that of Tim Sale. It's a really good year one story for Barbara Gordon.Last edited by aukevin; 07-02-2007, 03:08 PM.

If my comic shop has this trade today (it comes out today), I am getting it. It sounds awesome:
Meltdown:
Originally posted by from NewsaramaThe story of Cal, short for Caliente (the Spanish word for hot and a nod to Cal’s fire superpowers), is told in two parts. In the present Cal has been labeled as a madman as, with his death sentence already handed to him, he decides to go after all the supervillians he’s fought and try to take them down for good. No more handing over to the police, no more prisoners, he’s a man on a mission and his latest is his arch nemesis Maelstrom. However, being his arch nemesis, Maelstrom is no easy push over and their fight, starting in his Maelstrom’s lush office, lands on the street where pedestrians can only watch as the two superpowered humans unleash havoc on themselves in what should be the final battle if not for both of them, at least for one.
Interlaced with the fight we learn about the man behind the mask starting all the way back from his birth. We follow Cal as he goes from baseball stud to low-powered hero in a Justice League full of ‘heroes’ full of ego and powers much bigger then that of our own hero. So what happens to a sub par hero who fights for good his whole life because he never figured what to do with his life only to learn that the powers that have screwed up his whole life of normalcy are now killing him?Originally posted by from AmazonThe Flare is dying. His own super-powers are eating him alive, melting him down from within. During his final days, The Flare must struggle with his volatile life and the questionable decisions he's made along the way, hoping to find redemption before time runs out. See the final moments that prove what a hero can - and should - be, in the stunning mini-series that took the comic industry by storm.

Batman and "Heroes" fans might be interested in this. On Wednesday, Batman Confidential #7 comes out which is the first part of a 6-issue arc that retells a meeting between Batman and the man who would become the Joker. The writer of the story is Heroes writer/producer Michael Green.
Here's an 11 page preview:
There are two "Confidential" stories, a Superman one and a Batman one. The theme of the comics is to tell early adventures of the heroes. I really like Superman Confidential (written by Darwyn Cooke and drawn by Tim Sale) coming out right now which tells of Superman's first exposure to kryptonite. The first Batman story that just ended was good too, it was an early meeting between Batman and Luthor. I wasn't a fan of the art in that 6-issue story, but I enjoyed the story. I've liked these "Confidential" stories a whole lot more than the often-delayed All-Star titles for both characters.
Hopefully this new Joker one will be good. A lot of times when stories coming out about Joker's origins there always seems to be resistant against any retelling of what Moore did in The Killing Joke. Hopefully this story won't suffer from that and can find a good way to co-exist with that story as well.
