Still don't like Opera more than FF. Opera does have some nice things, but frankly, I don't need most of it (ie: bitorrent, IRC, widget?). I still don't think one can configure Opera as much as FF.

EDIT - For what it's worth, the Opera Installer is 6.2mb. Not sure why the installer size of FF is a negative compared to Opera? If ya can't fit either installer on a PC, it's time for a bigger hd.

I got Opera about a month ago and I like it better than FF, but I use FF for downloads. I thought I had Opera 9 a month ago-maybe not. Nonetheless, I downloaded the update.

"Don't think" leads me to believe you don't KNOW. You'd be surprised. Give this new version another shot, type "configure:opera" in the address bar.

I know you must be used to and comfortable with Firefox by now, and old habits die hard, but if we didn't kill them, we'd still be using IE.

It's not that it's a "negative", it's just funny to me than many people characterize Opera as "bloated" or "over-extended" software, when it's smaller than firefox!

If you don't need the extra features, turn them off or don't use them. Its still a fact that you have to extend the hell out of Firefox to do the same things Opera does out of the box. Even disregarding that, it's faster and has no memory leak! That alone seals it for me.

It had been in beta for a couple months, so it's possible you had one of those versions.

We all like Firefox. Why do you like it better than Opera, though? Is there something you do in Firefox you can't do in Opera? Do you not find the faster rendering and lack of a memory leak advantages over Firefox?

If you are sticking with Firefox, great. Just expand on your post a little, otherwise it makes no sense in this thread.

My problem is with the "widgets" (extensions). I can't get them to work, or probably don't know how to. Once I download a widget it will show up as a single line entry on a "transfer" page. What do I do from there?

                  It shouldn't do that mate.

Sounds like you haven't actually got the latest Opera that supports Widgets because they download directly into the shell of Opera and when first downloaded they are opened automatically.

There's also a Widget button in the top toolbar that lists the one's you have. From there you can open them and drag them anywhere on the screen. Right click and close etc.

I said "don't think" because I've used/configured Opera, but not to the extent that I've configured FF. Therefore, I can't give a resounding answer....hence the "don't think" which is the same as not knowing. If I coded the software, I might know more!

I've never heard that Opera was "bloated". The size of the installer wouldn't really mean much though. They both compress the installer and have it extract upon execution.....just a matter of the % with which both installer's were compressed.

I'm not sure about faster yet. However, I do agree Opera doesn't have a memory leak from my time using it. FF grows to 250mb on me during a workday when I leave it open all 8-9 hours. Doesn't slow me down as my computer has 1gb of RAM and dual 3.2ghz processors, but it is a problem they should fix.

One thing I'm trying to do is get the weather widget to be locked into place on the bottom status bar. I like it there. I hate that it opens in a completely new window.

I'd also like to be able to move the taskbars at the top of the browser. Not sure if I can do that? I want the Address bar to move up and the Tab bar to move down. Can't seem to figure that out.

Not sure which bars exactly you want to move but just Right click it, Customize, Placement.

Doesn't seem to do what I want. I'll try to explain it more:

At the top of the browser I have 2 toolbars "Tab Bar" and "Address Bar" plus the "File Edit etc...." menu. They're ordered so that it goes :

                          "File Edit" menu
                          "Tab Bar"
                          "Address Bar"

                          I want it to go:

                          "File Edit" menu
                          "Address Bar"
                          "Tab Bar"

Just the layout that I've grown accustomed to. It seems those toolbars are locked into place and I can't unlock them to swap the "Address Bar" and the "Tab Bar".

Thanks Admiral. I simply went fresh with an uninstall of my previous Opera and a download/install of the newest version-the gidgets pop up right away and I didn't even lose my bookmarks.
