Safari is developed by Apple itself, but has open source elements to it. It is based on a KHTML engine, which is different than what the mozilla family of browers has under the hood(netscape, mozilla, firefox, camino).

I love Safari too, and it has been my primary browser since I got my Mac(I've tried all the others, including OmniWeb!). For integration with the OS, you can't beat it(for obvious reasons). I've always kept Opera around as a secondary, but with version 9, it may just unseat it. FASTER, saved sessions, and default identification as IE, etc. Plus all the new extras.
I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

Oversimplification is the escape of men who want to avoid the duty demanded by true understanding.
