Wow....there's no AdBlock equivalent in Opera?

    Ouch.

      Re: Opera 9 Released

To me, Opera has more "gadgets" that allow you to do more things outside of surfing. IRC, BitTorrent, RSS, etc.

Firefox has more functions that make your surfing faster, easier, more efficient and safer. That's why I prefer Firefox. I use my browser for browsing, and little else.

Opera is a fine browser, much better than IE. But I already have separate, and frankly, better, clients for IRC, RSS and BitTorrent than what's packaged in Opera. So a lot of the gadgets in Opera aren't that useful for me. Plus Sage is one kick-azz RSS client extension for Firefox.

      Take care,

I've been screwing around with both today and so far Opera is much faster. Although results will obviously vary from person to person, and PC to PC.

No AdBlock extension though....I mean, damn. That might be a dealbreaker.

Yeah, being able to not block ads sucks.

I've been using both a lot at work today and I'm finding Opera to be slightly faster. Not much faster than a tweaked FF version though.

It's definately not a memory hog either. I haven't seen it larger than 40mb and I've thrown a lot at Opera to try to get it that way. More Widgets will make it bigger, but nothing like the 250mb of RAM FF can consume.

With that said, I need some of my extensions from FF! Adblock is huge for me. I also don't really like that widgets open up in a seperate small window. I guess that's what they are. I just want to integrate them into the browser somehow (ie: have the weather down on the status bar). There might be a way though - I just need to look up some stuff when I have more time outside of work.

                  Looks like you can AdBlock:

Gonna take some config though. I'm trying it out right now.

Can someone help me with the bittorrent? I went to the site and am trying to download something but it looks like it will take about 5 hours. I must be doing something wrong.

A program like Spy sweeper will not block ads while using Opera?

It might (I'm not familiar with the program or if it blocks ads), but then you're adding additional resources that need to be running on a computer.
