Also I believe Lois got most of the shank out of him in the plane and you did see the doctors get the remaining bits out. So it's not like he was stuck with a piece of Kryptonite inside him.
It renders him almost powerless immediately. I've seen him use faint traces of heat vision after first exposure. Death is close when his skin turns green-If I'm not mistaken that effect wasn't in the movie-I guess the writers thought everybody would mix him up with the Hulk.

I finally had the opportunity to go see this movie tonight after a long week of wishing I could have seen it on Tuesday night. Overall I thought it was a good adaptation of Superman, but there were many flaws that still leave me questioning the direction that was taken.

It was totally believable that he is the same character as the previous movies, something I wasn't sure was going to be pulled off. I swear at times he sounded just like Chris Reeve. His Superman and Kent were wonderful in keeping what we've seen before. Spacey was a good Luthor, much better than Hackman. It was obvious that Singer built this character on Hackman's portrayal, but in this movie Luthor brings more a ruthlessness to him and Spacey does well with it. Luthor still has some goons with him, but nothing like Otis. The goons worked well in this movie because Luthor knows how to use useless people in his plans. I did think that Kate Bosworth was a weak Lois Lane. I don't know if it was her or just how her character was written. Her role was basically just any girl. At times the character was good, but she just wasn't Lois Lane enough. I personally think Erica Durance from Smallville plays a wonderful Lois. Bosworth didn't stink acting wise, her character just wasn't totally right. She did have some very well acted emotional moments though
Brandon played Superman really well and I also thought he sounded like Christopher Reeve and even made some facial manurisms that were like Reeve.

Kevin Spacey played a very good Lex Luthor and would place him in the same camp as Gene Hackman good. But, I really like Michael Rosenbaum as Luthor on Smallville a lot. It's not fair comparing a tv show Luthor to the movies since he has had time to develop over 5 seasons, but he plays a very good Luthor on Smallville.

Seeing Kate Bosworth as Lois wasn't clicking for me at all, and all I kept on thinking about during her scenes were about how much better Erica Durance would do in that role on the big screen. Bosworth acted well, but she just didn't have that borderline Lois, "I'm smart, but also somewhat of a airhead" that Margot Kidder, Erica Durance, and even Terri Hatcher have played the part in. I thought that Kate's version of Lois Lane was too aggressive and I never felt that she was in danger ever like the other 3 ladies have been.

There is no logical explanation of how Superman "flew and threw" "that hunk of land" into outer space. Kryptonite makes him weak as a kitten and yet he exhibited his usual powers even after being exposed to enough Green K to almost kill him.
Yes green Kryptonite can in a sense "soften" Supe's skin. Because it weakens all of Superman's powers it will also affect his invulnerability, thus making it possible to pierce his skin with any sharp object, including a Kryptonite shank.
I agree with JayBee on the following about Kryptonite. Every Superman movie or tv show that I have seen, anytime that Superman was exposed to Kryptonite he became so weak that it caused paralysis. When Superman lifted that large mass of land, it was made out of Kryptonite mixed with Fortress of Solitude crystals. He should not have been able to lift that "Land" no matter what due to the whole thing being filled with Kryptonite.

Then, the whole idea of him and Lois having a child together and she knew all these years but tried to pawn it off as Richards kid is just insane. It made better sense as to why she wrote the article, "World Doesn't Need Superman". Superman leaves her not knowing she is pregnant, but he leaves with no explanation, she knows it's his kid. That irrates her more.

I liked the movie, but wasn't happy with the direction that parts of the story went. I need to watch this movie one more time, but I'll wait for the DVD to release in the fall. I think that they really needed to take the direction that was taken with Batman Begins and just start all over again with the story. Instead they decide to continue this from Superman II after battling General Zod.

Even though this might not be the best adaptation of Superman in my eyes, I still enjoyed the movie. In recent years, I liked Hulk which many hated, I enjoyed The Punisher very much with Thomas Jane in the lead, Daredevil/Elektra were decent movies in their own right and even thought that Fantastic Four wasn't that bad either. Granted these were Marvel movies, but there hasn't been many DC movies to talk about. I guess after years and years of comic book movie droughts, we learn to enjoy what we have as it can go back to that really soon where studios won't relelase comic book hero movies so often.

It was awesome but...everyone on board would've been dead or unconscious because of the Gs that the plane pulled in that downward spin. People who aren't trained pilots tend to pass out in slight turns in jets...Lois would've been definitely killed, possibly even thrown from the plane. I don't know...Anyone who watches a movie about something that involves their profession or just something that they have knowledge of tends to critique the movie or particular scene much more than usual. That scene wreaked of, excuse me, BS...sorry for being so critical...

There were actually 4 movies: Luthor was the villain in 1, the 3 Krypton natives from the Phantom Zone were in 2, rich guy and computer geek in 3 and some nuclear guy in 4. The first 2 were the best but all 4 had Christopher Reeves in them.

But that's the thing, she had no idea the kid was Superman's. She had no idea she even slept with him. He made her forget it all at the end of part 2. When she slept with Superman, he had no powers if you remember. He then got his powers back and made her forget it all and left. She didn't realize the kid was Supe's until the piano throwing incident. It all may have started to click at that point. Her boyfriend mentioned the article "I Spent a Night with Superman" and she said it was an interview, nothing more. But if you looked at her face, it was like she was trying to remember it and couldn't, as she seemed to have no clue about it.

This is all my assumption, and we'd need a Bryan Singer commentary track to get 100% clarification though.

You realize that there really isn't a guy that can fly and lift heavy stuff and all that too, right?

It is a comic book movie. Treat it as such.

Thank you. Everyone is complaining about the movie not being realistic. Is it supposed to be? No. He's a superhero that shoots fire from his eyes, can fly, and can lift damn near anything. Is that realistic?

People are complaining for example that the plot is unrealistic, with Luthor creating islands from kryptonite and the crystals. If that's unrealistic, then isn't the ENTIRE Superman premise unrealistic? If the story was realistic, it would be about bank robbers planning a huge heist or something, and what's the fun in Superman just stopping a robbery? It's gotta be something that even he will have trouble with, emotionally and physically. For example, islands grown out of the one substance that can kill him. And then, on top of that, dealing with the emotional side of trying to get Lois back in his life. Get over it, the whole movie is unrealistic when you put it in perspective. Just enjoy it for what it is, a summer action flick that happens to have more of an emotional and touching side to it than most summer blockbusters.

That's Hollywood for you, but comic book movies are meant to defy realism.

After reading a few more posts last night, what your saying makes perfect sense. It's been awhile since I last saw Superman 2, so I had forgotten about a few things. I'm going to get them via Netflix this week to rewatch 1 and 2. I want to buy them, but I've been holding off since last year when the announcement of the BOX SET for the fall is going to be released.

I'm not complaining about realism, I'm just complaining the only thing that bothered me was Superman lifting up that mass of "Kryptonic" land and holding it for many minutes without really getting very sick until he throws it into space.

He even walked on that land without even sensing anything until he got up to Luthor and then Luthor hit him knocking him down. Any Superman tv show or movie would have sensed the Kryptonite. This is the biggest flaw for me in the movie.

It wasn't aimed at you candy, but yes, I do agree with you on that point. You'd think with that much kryptonite, he would have atleast gotten very weak. It doesn't bother me too much though, especially with him "powering up" by the sun right before he lifted the island. But, it is still something to be addressed.
