In fact many times on the show they've claimed they're not metal at all and not going for a metal sound.

I heard it difference he left because of the way the band was going. He wanted to try something different or the Band I can't remember.

            Newsted leaves (2001-2003)
As plans were being made to go into the recording studio in 2001, Jason Newsted left the band, ostensibly due to "the physical damage I have done to myself over the years while playing the music that I love." However, subsequent interviews with Newsted and the remaining members revealed that Newsted's desire to release a CD and tour with his Echobrain side-project – and Hetfield's intense resistance to such an idea – was the primary cause of Newsted's departure, as Hetfield believed a release by an individual band member would somehow weaken the band. The 2004 documentary Some Kind of Monster provided more insight into the reasons for Newsted's departure. In the film he says he felt Metallica's desire to hire a therapist to help solve the problems between the band members was "****ing lame and weak".
This would be the first in a series of low-points the band would endure. In July, 2001, Hetfield entered rehab due to "alcoholism and other addictions". For nearly a year, Metallica ceased to function in any meaningful way. Ulrich and Hammett, for the first time, seriously considered the possibility that Metallica might be finished. Hetfield eventually returned to the band following his rehab hiatus. Slowly and cautiously Metallica continued as a 3-piece throughout the writing and recording of their next album. Longtime producer Bob Rock handled bass duties for the sessions.
Metallica held auditions for Newsted's permanent replacement in early 2003. Robert Trujillo formerly of Suicidal Tendencies, and Ozzy Osbourne's band, was chosen as the new bassist. Robert's resume also included Infectious Grooves as well as a stint with Black Label Society on their Boozed, Broozed, and Broken-Boned DVD. As Metallica moved on, Jason Newsted also found a new musical home joining Canadian thrash metal legends Voivod in 2002. In an interesting turn of events, Jason became Robert's replacement in Ozzy's band during the 2003 Ozzfest tour (which included Voivod as part of the touring bill).

No problem. Haven't thrashed anyone on a message board in years.

As far as Supernova's sound I think they said all along they are shooting for the classic rock sound. Also, I had no idea Y. Malsteem was still around..... there's an 80's throwback.

                  Re: Rockstar: Supernova

On this weeks reality show they attempt to deal with the media. Dilana comes off as a ***** and Lukas gets mad at one of them for her disrespecting him and Dilana as well for what she said. Toby pied Ryan again.

Patrice and Ryan get orginals,Patrice out of pitty and Ryan only got it because Storm went for Cryin by Aerosmith, she was willing to literally fight for it,get boxing gloves and throwdown in the backyard but Ryan said he wouldn't hit a woman. Toby made Dilana run around the pool naked this week and only said he wanted that song just to make her do that.

Magni is sick and sounded horrible. Dilana sounded even more horrible than Magni when trying to hit a high note in her song. Lukas thought the noise was a lost dog howling.

                    LOL, what else is new.

So this week unless something major happens, Patrice is gone, then it gets real interesting with the rest of the contestants because they all seem pretty liked by Supernova and not much experience with the bottom three. Ryan and Magni are the only ones that have been in the bottom three right?

Who do you think will go out of that group? If he ends up in the bottom three, I think Lukas might have some problems. The band doesn't seem to say much about him except for Newsted talking about his voice. But I guess they don't say much about Toby either, except Tommy seems to like him. Anyway, it'll get cool next week because I don't think any of the rockers are so bad they don't belong there anymore, in comparison to each other.

Yea I think Lukas would be the first gone after Patrice if he lands in the bottom 3. I can't imagine him singing that song Dilana did last week.

Tonight's set list (from the SN message boards):

                        Ryan - Original song
                        Patrice - Original song
Dilana - Every breath you take
                        Toby - Layla
                        Storm - Cryin
Lukas - All these things I have done (the killers)
                        Magni - Teen Spirit

From the webisode, I liked the sound of Ryan's original. It sounds like it could be a big hit tonight. I liked what I heard of Toby's version of Layla.

I hope Dilana tanks tonight, she sure sounded awful in the webisode. SN always tells the rockers to change it up some, has Dilana done that?

I also hope Storm rocks Cryin.

Ryan was great. Magni didn't look too pleased with him.
I don't feel that Dilana tanked but I didn't think it was very good but the band liked it and she wasn't in the bottom 3. Think it's safe to say Patrice is gone this week.

Toby had the performance of the week though. I really like his performance. I can see why Magni was upet, he did what they told Magni to. ;P

I wouldn't be surprised to see Supernova peform with Ryan tomorrow, maybe even his track...

                                Re: Rockstar: Supernova

really good show I thought. I liked all the performances this week, first time I could say that. I was a little worried at the beginning of Magni's, but once he hit the first chorus it was on. I liked Toby's Layla, good show by him. Patrice's original was good, just a little bland. It's nice she got to do that one before she has to go. Ryan's song was really cool, I liked it very much. Did he mean for his voice to go screechy at the end? I didn't like that. Dilana did fine, but it was a Police song, I'm not going to like it that much. That was weird when she started chanting her name, I thought the song was to her mom, not herself?

My bottom three for the night would be Patrice, Storm, and man, I don't know who the last one would be... I would like to say Dilana because I don't like her and the song wasn't anything real special to me, but she did a fine job. I thought Magni's was weak at the start, but he killed it after that. So I guess Lukas. Gilby already told him to play for the crowd, the band doesn't need Lukas looking at them. But I thought Lukas did well too, but I guess he'd be the best of the bottom three for me tonight. I like Storm a lot, not much for what she's done of the show other than some of her earlier stuff, but I like her original stuff you can see out on youtube. But I don't think that is Supernova stuff either.

Front-runners in my opinion now are Dilana, unfortunately, but she has fans in Tommy, Jason, and Gilby. Then Ryan who really kicked it up this week and really rocked it. I haven't liked too many of his performances, but he really rocked this week except I didn't like the screeches at the end. I also think Magni is sitting real good. The band only says nice things about him and he showed great moments tonight I thought.
