Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
When Locke saw that scripture on Echo's stick ("Look North with your eyes" - or however it was phrased) I'm going to be pissed if it ends up giving Locke the idea to climb a tall hill or mountain and then he discovers the 'other' Island.
If that happens I'm done with this show. These jackasses have been on the island for ove 2 months and nobody had the idea to climb up to take a look at their surroundings?
I'm totally on board with the show, but at this point it involves a suspension of disbelief while watching it. There wouldn't be as much of a mystery about everything if the cast acted rationally at every juncture. You know, like telling people about important things they discover instead of everyone keeping everything to themselves, or turning on those TVs when they saw them.
As for Kate's "worthless" backstory, to me it was yet another reminder that she and Sawyer have been on the run their whole lives. In last night's episode, they finally stopped running and found solace in being in one place with another person. And then moments later, there's Jack telling them to run again. If Kate told him there was nowhere to run, maybe Jack could pressure the Others in the operating room to tell him where their submarine was, or at least that it exists. But I'm sure Kate will say nothing and run away, leaving us with a wild chase through the forests of the Alcatraz island.
One thing to keep in mind. When Jack was first put in that cell, he heard his father's voice on the intercom. The Others told him the intercom was broken, so Jack thought he was hallucinating due to lack of nutrition. Since then he's heard Sawyer's voice, Juliet's voice, and the voice last night that told him to try the door (which was a setup by the Others) - all of which were real and proved the intercom does in fact work. Jack's dad - alive on the island? I wouldn't be surprised....Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

'Though, I guess if you don't like Jack and Saywer, or Locke, then yeah...this season probably wouldn't be good for you - but if you don't like the main characters, why are you watching the show?
EDIT: The voice last night telling him to open the door sound a lot like Alex's, which is weird because Ben didn't know where she was so it's not like he made her help Jack in order to show him the Sawyer and Kate thing.Comment

Maybe they have a deal where nobody leaves the Island, no matter what.
Regardless this show bows to nothing not named 24.Comment

I thought the same thing. It kind of reminds me of when they went back to the Pearl a few episodes ago and the one new girl was like, "Hey, maybe we should try to turn these TVs on?" And everyone looked at her like she was some kind of nuclear physicist for coming up with this amazing idea. That would have been the first thing I thought of when I saw those TVs set up like that. What are these people thinking?Comment

According to Ben, the day after he found out he had the tumor Jack's plane crashed. He considered it to be fate that a spinal surgeon crashed right after he discovered his illness, thus probably feels inclined to go with Jack as his savior.
Maybe they have a deal where nobody leaves the Island, no matter what.

Take this for what it's worth but I was listening to a local radio show and some guy called up who claimed he was related to a very low-end producer on the show.
The guy said that the reason why the Others can't get off the islands is that they have been biologicaly altered to require a certain 'substance' to live. And this substance is only produced on the island.
He described it as the exact same premise behind Jurassic Park where the dinosaurs needed to consume a certain 'food' that was implanted in all the vegetation on the island. So if they escaped they would die shortly from not getting this certain food or substance in their systems.
I hope that all makes sense.
Another spoiler he said was that Ben does not die and he becomes incredibly irrate over what Jack did. So he starts a massive war with the Losties.
I really hope that isn't true because I'm already bored to tears with this whole 'us vs. them' thing.

Me too. Especially since it appears it can change shape to anyone (Echo's brother, Boone, Jack's dad, the Black Horse). For one episode I'd like to see it turn itself into Jessica Alba.Comment

Agreed.I don't like the Yankees, I like the Red Sox, I don't like the Lakers, I like the Celtics, I hate the Canadiens and I love the Bruins. Soccer is the best sport on Earth, but most Americans are too ignorant to realize it. I am American.

I think it's been hinted at that the Others are impotent. Julliette is also a furtility doctor. This is why they steal children.Comment

Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
Considering this was the final episode of the fall season, the last 2 minutes were extremely poor.
So Jack gives Kate and Sawyer a 1hr head start to get off the Island or else Jack will let Ben die. I can't believe the writers couldn't think of anything better.
They should have ended the final scene with Pickett pointing his gun at Sawyer and then the screen turns black.... and then a gunshot goes off.
The fans would be guessing all winter if Sawyer is dead. That would have been a 1000 times better.
But up to the final scene, it was a great episode.
I'll post the rest of my thoughts later.
As for the writers not thinking of something better...what else could they do? Jack obviously knows very little about the island he is on. He thinks he has the upper hand but we know he doesn't because Kate can't go far. Sawyer's life is still in danger because Danny still has him at gunpoint, so that isn't even over.
I mean, it's the end of episode 6, not the end of season three. People got worked up about an episode having a huge cliffhanger. Even the writers themselves said it wouldn't be anything major.
For those of you who don't remember Jack's story from S1, let's refresh you.
He tells Kate about his first spinal surgery. He was operating on a 16 year old girl. Everything was going fine. He was closing her up, and sliced (on accident) the bottom of her spine where all the nerves come together. He tells Kate how he let fear in himself, for just 5 seconds. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. And then went back to work. She ended up being fine.
Now, how does this pertain to Ben's spinal surgery and the current situation?
*****SPOILER*****
There will be an episode that tells us what happened to the children that were abducted by the Others. This could answer the question about Juliet being a fertility doctor (though, obviously fertility doctors don't really deal with children out of the womb) and why the Others want children.
***END SPOILER***"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
- I believe Eko's message on the Jesus Stick will tell Locke where the other Island is.
- I wonder who is Jacob? It seems he's the real leader of the Others and not Ben. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the eye patch guy.
- I would rank the first 6 episodes of Season 3 in this order:
1) Further Instructions
2) A Tale Of Two Cities
3) The Cost Of Living
4) I Do
5) Every Man For Himself
6) The Glass Ballerina
- The producers should have did a better job of having a bigger cliffhanger. They knew before Season 3 began filming that there would be a 13 week break after 6 episodes. ABC even stated this was the fall season finale.
- Claire/Charlie/Hurley had very little screentime during the first 6 episodes.
- Looking ahead there are still a lot questions that need to be answered:
Who is Jacob?
How does the final scene of Season 2 connect to the Lost Universe?
Are Michael and Walt really off the Island?
What happened to Cindy and the 2 kids?
Are we going to find out more about Desmond's power to see the future?
How did Locke end up in a wheelchair?
Will there be any Nikki and Paolo flashbacks?
- If you want a good teaser for the rest of the season read this:
You guys have been quoted as saying you're going to drop a "bomb" during the second half of the season.
Damon: There are two bombs being dropped, one of which is a character bomb, and that will happen within the first three episodes after the break. And the other is a more significant story bomb, a game-changer, as it were, and that will happen shortly after.
I wouldn't be surprised if we find out there is a 3rd group on the Island. I feel like we will eventually be viewing the Others as the good guys (just like what Ben said last season).
This is purely a guess out of left field, but I'm going to say 2 of the main characters are related to each other.Comment

I still can't believe they resorted to such a cheap gimmick during last night's episode when Locke noticed the writing on Ecko's stick....
