not necessarily... have we ever got undeniable evidence that the smoke monster is the one that produces the illusions? Maybe Jacob works with the smoke monster to influence things that happen on the island... but then again, maybe the smoke monster is just an extension of Jacob.

Probably not for awhile. Just like Rescue Me Season 3 is coming on Blu ray in a few weeks, but nothing for 1 and 2.

I noticed that with Rescue Me also, hopefully soon S1 and 2 will get released.

I read a theory today that made some sense, the island is a "hub" for alternate realities and Jack leaving in the way that he did put him on a "bad" timeline. If he could go back to the island then he could change his future. So what we saw was only one of many possible future realities.

I also wonder if Jack had that flash-forward in his head right at the end there, if he "saw the future" and will now try to stop the people from leaving the island because he knows that it's disaster if they do. That's how the next season may begin, with Jack doing something to stop the rescue.

Well, it's not undeniable, but Eko's death is pretty damn close.

Pretty sure that it is a fast forward. At the beginning of the "visions", I thought Jack was just looking rough because of his divorce and coping with the fact that his dad is an alcohlic. But then I saw him talking on the cell phone, and I thought the camera had a weird zoom on the phone, as if to say that something in this picture doesn't belong. And then there was the conversation with the chief, which was really when I started to think we were in the future. Jack tells him to get his father down here, and if he is drunker than his dad, the chief can fire him. The chief knows that Jack has turned into an alcohlic, and had just about caught him stealing pills, and knows that Jack was about to jump off the bridge. The fact that the chief didn't respond to the dad comment showed me that he knew Jacks dad was dead and he didn't feel like dealing with a crazed and depressed man.

Overall I thought it was a good episode. BTW, what are we to make of Not Pennys Boat. Is it going to be like the end of season 1, (we are here to rescue you, pause, NOT.[though I thought it was kind of obvious]) Guess we'll just have to wait, what, 9 more months.

Danielle calls the black smoke the security system. Juliet says she doesn't know what it is, but that they know that it doesn't like their security beams.

Lost in all this discussion is that Desmond sees Claire get on a helicopter. So, we can assume that Claire is also saved.

I know someone mentions Jack telling Kate that "I'm tired of lying."

Perhaps, they discover the truths of the island and whatever it is, Jack and Kate keep it from authorities that will obviously question them about their time on the Island.

The boat not being Penny's rescue boat doesn't really scream problem for me.

Ben doesn't want anyone off the Island so it doesn't matter if it is Penny that sent out Naomi or if it were someone else. Either way, Ben would tell Jack that he is making a mistake.

I think the whole rescue issue is much ado about nothing. It just confirms that Penny hasn't found the Island and that someone else has found it.

The real question should be why those people were flying over the Island. Perhaps, they are looking for something that will force the Losties on the Island for a longer period of time.

These are my beliefs on Lost. This is my set in stone that overrides any theory I ever have about Lost.

                        1) The Losties will not be saved until Penny rescues Desmond.

(There was a big reveal when Charlie discovers that Penny isn't connected to Naomi. It isn't that Naomi and her team are bad, it's that the Losties won't be saved...yet. It is my belief that Desmond realizes this when he reads the message.)

                        2) Jack, Desmond, Locke, Kate, Sawyer, Walt will not die.

(They are without a doubt the most important characters on this show. I could add others to this list...Aaron and Ben, but I haven't seen how their storylines affect the overall flow of the story.

Jack is the lead. The hero. He dies, everyone fails. That's without question.

Desmond is the reason. He's the only one someone is searching for and his being alive is essential to the Losties having hope. Though, they don't know it yet. Only the viewers know this and even they may not be fully aware of it.

Kate is the love interest. She's the one that motivates Jack. She's the one he loves. You kill the one he loves and you ultimately kill the hero.

Sawyer is the balance. He keeps Kate and Jack on their toes. He creates a rift that makes their love unrealized. He dies and there is no dynamic between Kate and Jack. They would simply be in love and that wouldn't motivate Jack.

Locke is the connection. He is the one that gives the Island life. He is the one that challenges Jack - fate vs. destiny. He is the one that wants the Losties to stay. If Locke dies there is no difference of opinion that weighs on everyone's decisions.

Walt is the mystery. When we fully learn his powers, we'll fully learn the secrets of the Island. When the secrets are revealed, we'll learn who DHARMA is and what they are doing. When we learn that, we'll be watching the Series Finale.

i dont know how you guys feel that this is some sort of Desmond flash since his flashes are mostly about Charlies demise....the only time that Des had a different flash (from what i remember anyway) was the first time he had the flashes...something about Locke giving them a speech about how they would be ok...

It's not a Desmond flash-forward. There is no reason to believe it is Desmond-centric when it was cleary about Jack. I don't know why people are considering this possibility.

It would be immensely disappointing to viewers if they discover that the Season Finale flash-forward was 1) an alternate future or 2) A Desmond flash-forward.

There is no possible way to present that scenario unless useless and pathetic exposition were used and that would be the day Lost jumps the shark.

What we saw is what happens. That's the only thing that makes sense or should make sense. It doesn't mean it's the absolute ending. It could be a Season Five experience and Season Six could be Jack returning to the Island to live there.

Point is, that's not a series finale type ending. It's a single episode realization that forces Jack to continue searching for a way to return to the Island. If anything it reveals that Jack will return to the Island after being saved, if not already confirming that Jack gets off the Island and realizes Ben was right.

Also, before people start going crazy over this...I don't think Walt was the black smoke. We already know that Walt has a gift and it's been mentioned by Ms. Klugh that he can be in more than one place at a time. This is an extension of Walt's gift and I imagine we'll get more confirmation on this as the series continues.
