After ordering something through a participating retailer, you're sent away from that site to a gmail site, and register a credit card and shipping/billing info on that gmail account. Then you finish the order at the original site.

USA Today: "Blu-ray continues to outpace HD DVD"

The stylistic Spartan battle film 300 has charged to the fastest sales start of any high-def video disc release yet, according to Warner Home Video. Consumers have purchased more than 250,000 copies of the film in the competing Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD formats since its release July 31. That far surpasses the previous hot seller, also from Warner, The Departed, which took three months to sell 100,000 copies.

So far, the Blu-ray Disc version of 300 is outselling the HD DVD version, 65% to 35%. According to Home Media Research, that mirrors the overall sales pattern this year (Jan-June), with Blu-ray accounting for 67% and 33% for HD DVD,.

Warner releases movies on both of the competing formats. Sony, Disney and Fox only support Blu-ray, while Universal exclusively supports HD DVD.

The Spider-Man films (Oct. 30) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End (Dec. 4) are coming to Blu-ray later this year. Overall, released titles on Blu-ray outnumber HD DVD roughly 2-to-1. "Blu-ray tips the scales in its favor this holiday season," says Peter Bracke, editor-in-chief, High Def Digest. "It's going to be tough for HD DVD to keep pace."

It is bleeding to death and Spiderman and Disney will soon be twisting the knife. It is better for the consumer to get this over with and just have one format. All of this is just delaying the inevitable....

I'm not counting on the $50 retail priced Spiderman 3 to be the death of HD-DVD. The way Best Buy and Circuit City prices HD/BD, it'll be $44.99 there. Disney hasn't released anything but POTC yet.

I agree Blu-ray is winning right now, but I wouldn't say either company will throw in the towel. Until I can get Universal on Blu-ray, then HD-DVD is alive and well.

It really is pretty interesting....I honestly don't see HD-DVD going away very easily. It does seem like Blu-Ray is pulling away and the only way HD-DVD could win or "tie" is if some of those exclusive Blu-Ray studios start making for both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. (hope that happens someday....)

Well Disney does have Cars, Ratatouille, and Meet the Robinsons in the pipeline...so that's something.

Plus I read something about Sleeping Beauty and a few other "classic" animated ones having their HD premieres over the next six months or so.

Cars has been pushed out twice from original release dates, I'll believe it when I see it. Considering Meet The Robinsons was pretty bad, I don't see it being a big DVD like normal Disney releases, especially on Blu ray.

Has Ratatouille been announced for Blu ray?

I think the beginning of POtC had a video showing Sleeping Beauty and others coming before the end of the year. None have been announced as of yet though. Disney and Fox really haven't done much of anything on Blu ray to date IMO.

Nothing official but it's a given considering it's CG and if 'Meet the Robinsons' is a dual format release I can't see why Pixar's latest wouldn't be.

I'm just hoping for a format winner, and since I've only invested in Blu-ray (see my rants against M$ and the HDMI) I'm still hedging on HD-DVD. The only two that are "big" must buys for me would be "Heroes" and "King Kong", since the Matrix trilogy will be on Blu-ray towards the end of the year, IIRC.

Don't know if there was a post about this or not and I'm not searching through the thread for the answer to this question cause this thread is about 107 pages too long. Is there a dual formatted drive that I can put into a computer right now anywhere??

Not sure about a PC drive but LG has a stand-alone dual format player for a cool grand.

Until they turn off the analog channels and both HD tvs and players become more affordable, neither format is going anywhere. At the moment most people are quite satisfied with their current DVDs and not looking to pay 2x-3x the price to own the same movie(s).

True and that maybe where HD-DVD has a leg up since I think most HD players can play SD DVDs and HD DVD players and movie will continue to drop!!

I didn't say HD-DVD was going anywhere, but is pretty much for certain that it is indeed bleeding to death. How long does it take? Who knows, but it is for all intensive purposes dying. The Betamax lasted awhile and it was dead long before it ceased production.

This format war is not personal, unfortunately some take it that way (it is electronics, who the hell gives a .....), but facts and numbers don't lie....HD-DVD is getting beat pretty soundly and has very few things in the future that would suggest a Balboa comeback. It is done.

Not really sure why you seem so intent on downplaying HD DVD's but they have perhaps the biggest 2 items in the pipeline right now that should absolutely sell like hot cakes: Heroes and the Star Trek set. Sure, Blu-Ray has all the Disney library in their back pocket and will for sure eventually be released, but as long as there are exclusivity deals, neither format is going anywhere.
