Only real reason right now that BluRay is winning is because they count all of the PS3's that are out there. Imagine if the PS3 wasn't out, you think BluRay would be winning?
I consciously bash HD-DVD? I don't care who wins...but the fact is Blu-Ray continues to outsell HD-DVD at a 2-1 pace. That is a HUGE gap and HD-DVD has been unable to close it.

The people that don't understand the facts and numbers are the ones that don't get it....I am not picking a side or bashing one or the other....I am stating the obvious. Just like the 360 is owning the PS3....this is documented.....

You can continue to say whatever you want but the fact is HD-DVD is bleeding to death and they may be around in the next 1-2 or even 3 years, but they won't ever beat Blu-ray. They lost the war.

Do you really think that I care if one side wins over the other, I'm vested in both formats so it won't matter who wins or loses...................You know who has won this format war? People like myself, EG, Rocky, (sorry if I have forgotten anyone else) etc. because we have enjoyed both formats since inception and will be able to for years to come. I personally prefer HD-DVD, but that won't stop me from also enjoying BluRay movies...................but you continue to preach about BluRay like you own a piece of Sony.....I don't know maybe you do.

              Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

I own both and I can certainly see where people would think that the format war is over, BR has a lot of movie support, HD-DVD has a better pricing structure on the hardware but over time you can always lower the price but you cant necessarily gain movie studios, so unless a studio jumps ship and goes HD-DVD, the pricing difference may not be enough to sway it in their favor. To point out, I also am a owner of both formats so its not as if I root for one over the other, so there is no bias either way, in fact I enjoy HD-DVD movies more just because I dont have to use my PS3 to play it.

I doubt the HD DVD was in full screen it was probably just 1:85:1 widescreen aspect ratio appearing "full Screen" on you HDTV. I seriously doubt they make the HD "Full screen" DVDs (those are for people who don't know why they make wide screen DVDs thus not really hardcore film people). HD DVDs not only preseve the orginal aspect ratio the film was shot on but also the native resloution and frame rate! Disturbia was good!

O okay, Well I didnt change anything at all on my tv and I used the HD Dvd drive for the 360 so I figured it was that way. If not I hope there all like that b/c its so much better in Full Screen in my opinion b/c I can't stand that stupid *** black line on top and bottom, Tho I can always tell a bit the difference in pure quality.

Disney Previews 'Cars' Blu-ray Interactive Features

Disney has posted a new trailer for its upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Cars,' providing a first glimpse at the disc's much-hyped interactive features.

As previously reported, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment plans to debut the animated blockbuster on November 6, when it will be one of a trio of the first Pixar releases to hit Blu-ray (alongside 'Ratatouille' and 'The Pixar Short Film Collection' ).

Hyped as the "High-Definition Event of the Year" in the lengthy trailer (watch it in full here), 'Cars' seems poised to push the limits of what we've seen so far on the Blu-ray format in terms of interactivity.

Highlighted specifically in the clip are first looks at two features exclusive to the 'Cars' Blu-ray release. Stretching the format's BD-Java capabilities is the "Car Finder" game, allowing viewers to search for over 200 models of cars hidden throughout the movie, and even "race the clock" to find a specific car in a frozen frame of film.

Also touted is the "Cine-Explore" mode, where John Lasseter "personally guides you through the making of the movie while you watch the movie." Judging from the footage that appears in the trailer, the "Cine-Explore" function looks similar to the "In-Movie Experience" picture-in-picture video commentaries common to the HD DVD format, making 'Cars' among the first announced titles to replicate this much sought-after feature on Blu-ray.

Additional announced features on 'Cars' include deleted scenes, the short film "Mater and the Ghostlight" and all of the other features included on the standard-def DVD version of the film, released late last year.

That's probably because Disturbia was a flat film, so it takes up the entire viewing area of a 16:9 TV. Most movies are made in scope, which is wider and will have black bars on the top and bottom, even on HDTVs. You can also tell based on the aspect ratio listed on the back of the DVD case, if it's 1.85:1 then it's a flat film, if it's 2.35:1 it's scope.

Flat is in the 16:9 aspect ratio, more like a square than the letterboxing of scope films. When you see a movie in theatres, if it's a scope movie, the film will take up the whole screen in the auditorium. If it's flat there will be curtains drawn in on the sides to shrink the screen area.

I found some more basic info on the whole aspect ratio here: http://www.cinematography.com/forum2...hp?t11103.html

Disc Sales: Hard Numbers in for First Half of 2007

New data released Tuesday by Home Media Research provides a first look at actual disc sales numbers for the first half of 2007, and it's more good news for Blu-ray.

The research arm of Home Media Magazine says total sales of Blu-ray discs for the first six month of 2007 totalled 1.6 million units, compared with 795,000 HD-DVD discs sold in the same time frame.

While Blu-ray's 2-to-1 disc sales lead over HD DVD in 2007 has been known for months now, these figures are the first hard look at exactly how many discs have been sold by each format so far this year.

Of course, these numbers remain tiny compared to standard-def DVD sales. Both high-def disc formats combined have reportedly accounted for only 2.5% of overall disc sales so far this year.

Still, with overall DVD sales in a continued slump, high-def remains the one clear growth area for the home entertainment industry. As such, retailers are said to be making more room for both next-gen formats as we head into the crucial fourth quarter holiday shopping season.

What effect the increased shelf space, a packed release slate, and lower player prices will have on disc sales for the second half of the year remains to be seen, but needless to say, we'll be tracking developments as they happen. Stay tuned!

Warner Goes Non-Combo with Wave of HD DVD Re-Issues

I'm not a big fan of these Combo discs, while some on this board are. IMO its a good thing that they are doing away with these combos to bring the price down by a few dollars.

'The Ant Bully,' 'The Fountain,' 'Happy Feet,' 'Lady in the Water,' 'The Lake House,' 'Letters from Iwo Jima,' 'Rumor Has It...,' plus Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning 'The Departed,' and one of 2006's top-selling high-def titles, 'Superman Returns.'

Slashed to an even cheaper $28.99 are the catalog titles 'Good Night, and Good Luck' and 'Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.'

I agree with your opinion and hope that the practice of combos begins to decline as time goes on. I hate paying more for a combo just to have the SD version, of which I will never watch anyways.
