I'm interested in the version of The Rock that we'll get. The theatrical version or the Criterion/Disney version that has Cage shooting the air bag edited out

The best thing about the Criterion DVD is the extra footage where Ed Harris stays in character and goes berserk while they're filming the scene where he's talking to the people at the Pentagon.
        Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.

It'll be a shame if it's a bare bones edition, I'd love to see Criterion start making Blu ray's. I have a feeling, knowing Disney's track record, that we're getting the movie, a making of, and a trailer.

The Criterion discs of Silence of the Lambs, The Rock, Armageddon, and Hard Boiled are some of my favorite discs in my collection.

I agree, unless HD-DVD group has more announcements coming for releases...........they will be screwed. Eastern Promises, Heartbreak Kid, Kingdom, and Zodiac are on my list.

After 1/8, there isn't much announced or scheduled at the moment until Star Trek Season 2. Either their guarding their schedule for a few more weeks, there could be some big blockbusters coming, or they have nada (which I doubt).

I can't wait for 3:10, War, SAW IV, RE, RE3, The Rock, and M&C to release on BD.

I dont know about that. It looks like Jan. Will be a bad month but not many of the Bluray exclusives are going to sell alot. I dont see many people running out to buy the Rock or RE years after they were released and 3:10 isnt going to sell much either.

HD is dropping Bee Movie and American Gangster between March and June and those two will sell a ton.

HD is dropping Bee Movie and American Gangster between March and June and those two will sell a ton.
I just think that my point is that with all these catalog releases, it helps BD even more building the BD library of titles. When someone new to a format starts looking at what is out for both, more titles by one company could be enough to sway. Plus it helps them accumulate more sales......but those titles you mentioned might not be big sellers, but they will pull in some numbers to the overall sales.

I personally think that if HD-DVD doesn't get anymore titles on that schedule for release between January-April, they might as well give away that SAL player lead they have to Sony. They need to strike and strike heavy, they have 2 huge advantages moving past this 2007 Christmas season and they can't rest on their laurels to be knocked back down again. This is just my opinion, but its how I feel about this. Granted we still have a whole month away and they can announce another 20-30 titles. Everyone said the same thing about December with TimeCop being originally the final release of the year, but a few more titles were added just a few weeks ago.

I rather have the opportunity to build a decent collection than maybe 8 titles on the year of big releases. Which is why, I'm a big fan of the BOGO, B2G1 free sales.

Buyer Beware: The Omega Man has great PQ, but only a mono soundtrack with a small amount of extras. Applies to both formats. Ah, well.

This is the second time I've heard of a WB title with only a mono track. Weak sauce.

Sounds like the upcoming Wall Street Bluray is getting the full HD treatment

Porting over all of the bonus features from last year's 20th Anniversary Edition DVD release of the film, supplements are set to include an introduction and full-length audio commentary from Oliver Stone, the "Greed is Good" retrospective documentary, and deleted scenes (also including optional commentary from Stone).

Tech specs include Fox's usual 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and uncompressed PCM 5.1 Surround audio, plus optional Digital Dolby and subtitle tracks in French and Spanish.

The mono track wasn't bad, it was ok for something this old. The PQ is another story, they did a really good job on the transfer imo.

Good luck on this title seeing the light of day. Big rumor going around on the HD forums for weeks is that Independence Day has been delayed. FOX is a bunch of bozos.

My only gripe with my HD purchase is that 3:10 To Yuma is only BR. It's one of the best movies i've seen in a long time. However, the regular DVD should still look damn good.

BTW, found an HDMI cable at Sam's Club for a whopping $19. Picked that up earlier, and checked out a couple scenes from 300 HD today before work, and holy crap, i'm never looking back from HD. The quality is astounding. After that, I popped in my Superman Returns regular DVD and that looked a LOT better as well. Can't wait to start building my collection!

That site is awesome, I recently started going there and I love their reviews

Except I made the mistake of going into the forums at that site and I got to observe the pissing contest going on in there first hand. I'm sorry, but some of those people are defending their formats like their mothers. I know, as a forum addict here that it's pot calling the kettle black, but man those cats need to get a life.

I suggest just using those forums for the bargain subforums.

That's all AVS, HDD, and Blu-ray's forums are good for, in terms of these formats. Bargains, and where to find imports. We have a small circle here who post both in this thread, so even then, you may not have to venture too far.
