Which player is it and does it do Profile 1.1?

I agree, I think this is where BluRay is going to **** themselves if the old players can't be updated in some sort of way.

nice. I might have to pick that up eventually. I don't want to go to 800 bucks for it though.

After Rocky & Jig's comments about eBay, I decided to check out how prices have fallen..

..you guys weren't kidding. I just bought The Sopranos, Season 6: Part 2 for $42.99 shipped.

          Cot damn. I love it!

Just another case of the BDA shooting itself in the foot. The movies are excellent, but some of the decisions surrounding the format are puzzling.

Slayer, it is well worth going through ebay. These prices on there have fallen the last 2 weeks, I think a lot has to do with the BOGO's and B2G1 free deals. There has to have been many dealers or ebayers that bought a ton off of amazon and their getting ready to offload........but there are also a lot of open merchandise on there too at low prices.

Last week, I picked up all 3 Mission Impossibles for about $16 each with shipping and then that Wolf Creek a few days ago for $15 total. I'm just going to use ebay to build my back catalog of titles that our out in hidef and I want to replace the SD-DVD version with.

Walmart Super Secret HD-DVD Sale Round 2

One week from Today, 12/7/07 WM's last secret sale will have the Toshiba HD A3/A2 with 5 free movies instantly plus 5 via mail in rebate.

Total of 25K players being shipped to stores with each store receiving a minimum of 5 units each. If my memory serves me right.

Some stores will receive the A3 and some the A2. Right now the prices in the system are $298/$198 respectively. I dont know if the price will drop as well.

BTW, there is also going to a 50" Vizio plasma HDTV in the sale and 40gb PS3 with $50 giftcard given instantly with purchase.

                A Walmart Employee at Hidef:

If its an A3= 2 in the box + 5 off the shelf + 5 via mail in rebate.

                12 total.

If its an A2 = 5 off the shelf + 5 via mail in rebate.

                10 total

As for the pricing, I will check daily but I probably wont know anything till its on the website. Last time home office accidently put the pricing up for the stores to see but quickly pulled it.

I gave up on using eBay for blu-rays months ago, but I'll definitely keep a closer eye now. The deals are still a little scarce with regular titles, but I've seen some steals for the TV & box sets (excluding Planet Earth).

Looks like Target is having fun. A couple of "ghost" blu-ray listings have popped up for Star Wars Episode I-VI, and Batman Begins.

I say go for it. Saves space compared to other setups, and you keep HD DVD in 1080p. The specs & components are close to, if not, top-shelf. $600 is a good price.

Nobody knows how exactly Profile 1.1 implementation will be handled, let alone Profile 2.0 with BD Live, but I think having a profile 1.1 player (as this is) will help your immediate future blu-ray needs.

I agree, plus it doesn't look too bad either. Looks a bit like the A3. I wish I could afford a combo player, it will be nice when these get to the $200-$300 price range.

Why though? You have 2 HD-DVD players and a PS3. Not like you're going to get rid of the PS3 anyway.

It would be nice to have 1 machine for both formats on my main tv.

If stand alone BD players reach under $200, I am getting one. Like I have always said and will stick with, I hate using my systems for watching movies. It puts extra stress on the system, while many will disagree with me, its my twisted view point.

There are firmware updates available for the players, though. No telling if they'll add proper Profile 1.1 & eventually 2.0 support. The PS3 will receive the FW update for it, but the PS3 can do everything blu-ray related.

For the record, a Profile 1.0 player still has 401 movies & counting to work with, as of November 27th.

I suggest a cheap HD DVD player, for now. As you wait on blu-ray, the PS3 and the stand-alones will only get cheaper. Seems win-win, for your scenario.
re: 1.1 discs on a 1.0 player. All discs are still supposed to play on the 1.0 players, just not all of the special features will be available. Namely, the PIP function wont work. The 1.0 players are supposed to be able to play all of the new Blu-Rays.
