I lived it, see it thru my homies and got out of it, why watch it? I saw a snippet of it while browsing thru the channels some time ago. I didnt like how they are portraying some of the people in that show.Comment

I've been thru it as well and what makes the show appealing, for me anyway, is how realistically they portray the characters including the police officers. The show is good but it has its negatives.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

I'm sorry I just dont get that. I'm a lawyer and that doesnt mean that I cant watch or enjoy Law and Order. I am a black male who grew up in the Baltimore inner city and that doesnt mean I cant watch the Wire.

Also, I cant understand how someone can have an issue with a show when they have only seen a snippet but whatever.Comment

 Re: Real 'quality' television...

I'll agree that the overall content is a lot better. Maybe it's just me that doesn't like the stuff being dished out. The drama genre has taken a quantum leap to what it used to be but i'm just finding a lot of the stuff on the dramatic side to be a little too dark for my tastes.

What ever happened to being a little more imaginative and dare I say, even hokey? Sure a lot of the shows in the 80s are laughable today but you'd think that in such a climate the world is in now that there'd be more escapist fare rather then deeply realistic, gritty stuff.

As for the comedies...I just don't like what's out there. I've seen some of How I met your Mother which is interesting and funny but that's only one example in the sea of television today.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Overanalyzing, as usual. The reason why I didnt like it is because not all dope dealers, users and so called thugs are that stupid.

Since Im at work, I ask a couple of co-workers, "Whats The Wire all about?"

 Responses are:

Woman - "TV show where they show police setting up dope dealers and crooked cops shaking down the dealers."

Black guy - "I hate that show, they are always showing the black dope dealers/thugs being the stupid ones!!"

Filipino - "Man, The Wire is the ish, them fools be getting caught up, informants are all around in there."

Are you a defense attorney or prosecuter? Sorry if I dont know the correct terms, dont sue me.Comment

What? The drug dealers on the wire are smart! They are always a step ahead of the cops. Thats what makes the show interesting.Comment

 Re: Real 'quality' television...

Hilarious. If you bother to watch the show you would realize that the dealers are probably the smartest characters on the show. In part, the show is about how much trouble the cops have in putting drug dealers away and stopping drug organizations. This show also shows both sides of (positive and negative) drug dealers and has perhaps the most honest depiction of the black inner city that I've seen on TV or in the movies.Overanalyzing, as usual. The reason why I didnt like it is because not all dope dealers, users and so called thugs are that stupid.

If you bother to do a little research, other than asking your co-workers, you would be hard pressed to find many negative reviews of the show. Thats coming from black and white tv critics. Its a great show, quality television and the reason you dont know that is because you are misinformed. With that said, I dont even know why I responded to your first statement. It was just a typical "edgy" statement from you with nothing behind it. Do yourself a favor and watch Season 1 of the Wire when it debuts on BET tomorrow night.

 I'm neither a prosecutor or defense attorney. I'm a entertainment attorney.Comment

Don't get me wrong, 24 has some "whatever" moments. Sometimes I laugh at people who are sitting there thinking Jack is going to die. Sure, it might happen in this season, but the last 3, where he was the shows life, there's no way he dies. I still love the show.

Another show I think that has great potential, if they would just lose some of the lame stuff, is Criminal Minds. I've seen a few episodes where it really impressed me.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

No doubt. Avon Barksdale and Omar are damn-near geniuses. Tons of street smarts. Stringer Bell is no dummy, either.

 Re: Real 'quality' television...

Agreed. "The Wire" will SUCK on regular TV. It will be a mere shell of itself after it's dissected like a biology frog to meet the censors' approval.

Don't bother -- get the DVD set or a torrent.

 Take care,
