    Re: Real 'quality' television...

If 24 was 100% realistic (including everything happening in real-time) the show would be the most boring television show in TV history. They over-did the killing last year but I too think it's ridiculous to call the writing horrible, the acting horrible and the show nothing close to realism.

The writing is what got me to keep watching 24 all this time, the fast action is great but the twists and turns and quality writing I believe pulls other people in as well. Acting has also helped, maybe I am not an ultra-judge on acting but the fact the awards it has gotten and the different characters on the show seem to always vary and never be corny (jack is self-explanatory, chloe is a very unique and excellent character, won't argue for/against audrey, the rest have been very good).

Realism I explained above. If you want a completely realistic show this would not of gotten past Season 1 and aside from over-killing in Season 5, it hasn't gone too over the top. I might check out "The Wire".

I'm not British...but BBC dramas are, at times, absolutely superb.
Now I'm going to surprise you....I agree with you!

First.....I don't watch "24" during the season. I watch it after buying the DVD. I love/like/love the show. I know it's not "likely" but it's fun.

Now....the only shows I DO watch regularly are all British shows. All on the Biography Channel

Midsomer Murders. Excellent show and I'd love to have a home where this show is set. Beautiful!
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Again....a truly great version of the classic sleuth. Always a nice edge to his portrayal.
and my wifes favorite...Poirot. If she and I are both off on Sundays together....we make a day of relaxing in the house...reading and watching these three shows which play all day.

        Hell no.

Violence, profanity and grisly scenes are part of "The Wire's" power and realism. Delete that, and the show loses a lot of its power and realism.

        Take care,

Just watched the first 10 minutes on the Wire on BET and they are keeping all the profanity except for the F word. Also they arent over dubbing the profanity just silencing the curse word. Now im interested in seeing how they handle the violence.

I'm gonna give Wire in the blood a chance and rent it from netflix. A few reviews say that if you are a fan of "Seven" then you will love this type of show. Actually by reading a lot of of reviews, the bad ones were not because of the writing or acting but the overly graphic images and violence they depict in the show.

I love Seven, but i do have a breaking point when it comes to watching too many scenes of horrific murder.

I am not 'knocking' it. I like the show.

What I am saying is that if people "really" want serious drama...try a show like 'Wire in the Blood'.

It is serious drama. The acting and plots are sublime. Watch both shows back to back, as I have been doing, and it's not even remotely debatable.

I'm betting that most people have never even seen 'Wire in the Blood'.

If not, try it. If people want to spit out "serious drama", then watch some real quality stuff.

Any UK posters here will know exactly what I mean...
