    What are you reading?

I'm pretty sure there's a thread like this floating around somewhere, but I really didn't search too hard.

    Anyways, I'd like to recommend

    http://www.amazon.com/Ghosts-Vietnam...e=UTF8&s=books

In case you were unaware, Jim Stewart is our own Jim416. He can mostly be found socializing in our many baseball forums. While The Ghosts of Vietname isn't your typical war story, it is a very moving tale about a man struggling to find his place in our world, before, during, and after the war. I loved every minute of it, couldn't put it down, and was finished with it in 3 days. I also found out that Jim grew up just 10 miles from my hometown. Small world.

I am reading Friday Night Lights (a classic) when I'm at school.

I'm also reading The Draft by Pete Williams. I'm really enjoying this book, it gives you a nice in depth look at the NFL draft from a players perspective - extremely interesting. Highly recommend it!

          Re: What are you reading?

I recently finished All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy. It's the first book in The Border Trilogy. I will be starting book two, The Crossing, tomorrow. I also recommend No Country For Old Men by McCarthy. It's a more exciting book and might be of more interest to those that don't enjoy reading on their own.

All the Pretty Horses was fantastic. It's like a contemporary Western, and follows a boy as he leaves Texas for Mexico, with no set destination or goal. He meets friends along the way, encounters trouble, and of course, a girl that adds a romantic element. Horses are also very prevalent in the story, and I especially liked how the use of horses helped establish the setting as well as set the novel apart from other adventure-type stories.

McCarthy is an established writer, and is very contemporary. As an English major, I think it's very neat to discover writers that have staying power and will likely be considered a part of literature many years from now.

To those that enjoy reading by choice, I'd recommend All the Pretty Horses. To those that don't necessarily read on their own, I'd recommend No Country for Old Men, as it's quicker paced, more modern, and has more action. Both are great reads, and I highly recommend them.

You should read it because it is a good book.

Right now I'm reading Into Thin Air
for a class. Besides that I don't really have time for much reading. Last semester for school I had two English courses that I had a lot of reading in. I would estimate I had to read about 500 pages a week last semester. But that is the life of an English major.

Just finished When Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, which was a wild novel that I had never read. Plus I have always loved the movie Blade Runner so I finally got around to it.

I'm reading Fast Food Nation right now, great stuff.

I finished up Blue Bloods by Art Chansky: Story about Duke/UNC basketball rivalry. It's the 3rd time I've read it cover to cover. It's a pretty non-biased book which is a surprise since Chansky is a Tarheel lover.
