    Re: Apple Mac Lovers

Thing I'm worried about switching to Mac is... I'm already so comfortable using Windows. I know all the workarounds and what not... I don't even know how to reformat a Mac lol. And the keyboard is different somewhat. What are some of the keyboard shortcuts you guys use w/ a Macbook?

    I'm leaning towards a MBP 15'.

And how do you guys 'protect' these $1,000+ investments? Any recommended cases or carrying cases/bags? Just looking at my options if I do purchase one...

Wish I would have had some sort of skin/case on mine, it was on the floor by the steps and went down them.. :/ Cracked the edge and the cd rom drive doesn't work. I'm lucky everything else is OK.

I was just about to post in this thread to let everyone know, I just got a Speck Case for my MacBook Pro, and it works great. My dad is buying one now as well. Great investment and for only 53 dollars total.

Can you point me towards those? I'm on OS right now for the first time on my new MBP

Nice... I'm looking at the Speck "Satin Soft-Touch" cases... cause then it could separate mine from my sister's (who also has the same laptop). Maybe the black one...

You can find some good deals on eBay. I bought mine from there new for $16. It is available at Best Buy for $35. (My link is broken, but if you look for the "Init Laptop Briefcase", I got the 15'' one.)

What do you guys think of the screen? I've almost decided on my laptop and last night I was saying Dell, now I'm saying Macbook Pro again. It's either the 13" (for portability) or 15" (for best overall performance). Some people told me to upgrade to the high-resolution screens but who thinks it's really worth the $100 upgrade?

And I'm just questioning the 'downloading'. Some people said it's harder to 'download'... 'things'... on a Mac than it is on a Window. Does anyone else have problems with it? I was thinking, for example, about any possible issues I'd have with Microsoft Office. My school uses office files for things such as papers and what not, and I'm already comfortable with Windows' Office. So I'm just wondering if I can 'download' it online, transfer it to a USB file drive, and unzip it in my Macbook Pro and use it like that?

My advice would be to use Parallels and install Windows 7 in a virtual machine. That way, you can have the best of both worlds. You can't really beat a laptop that can offer you that. Get the 13 inch MBP and get Parallels and you can install all of your PC software on there.

I'm suppose to be getting Fusion on my computer with Windows 7 and I can not wait, I'm not good with photoshop but I'm a pro with Microsoft Publisher and Paint with creating Sports Reports for videos games.

I have Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac installed on my MBP right now. Works great. I was wary of learning an entirely new system for office productivity in iWork.

However, I have also used OpenOffice and it is nearly identical to Microsoft Office. I would highly recommend that other than illegally downloading Microsoft Office. Give it a try by going here.

As far as the screen goes, it does have less glare but also less brilliant colors. The higher-resolution is difficult to notice. I would say if your eyesight is less than perfect, shy away from the upgrade. The higher res results in smaller fonts. IMO, it's not worth the price increase.

I ordered my orange Speck case off of eBay - brand new, in original packaging, for $30
