    Re: iPhone on June 29.

news video about a ladies plan to spoil everyones weekend by buying out an entire store:

Dallas news, headlines, weather, sports and traffic from KDFW FOX 4 News, serving Dallas-Fort Worth, North Texas and the state of Texas.

lol @ the lady. my safe guess is that shes a stay at home mom using her husbands money. they shoulda let her have 16 grand worth only to realize she would breaking even. meanwhile having to take 10 trips to the post office

Well it appears that it could be Apple's part of this. From reading other boards, if you took your simcard out and in another ATT phone it will work. Which means that what ever one is waiting on is Apple to confirm that account to unlock the phone.

Hopefully everyone will get it to work today. Doesn't look good for Apple/ATT. If this takes one more day to activate for some people, who knows how bad this will look.

Hm, my question is.. can you assign any of the songs on your phone to be a ringtone?

No you can't. That does suck. I don't know why this wasn't done but it's probably the mentality of the cell phone comanies. Ringtones is a very lucrative business. Verizon, Sprint, ATT all make a killing off of selling music for more than itunes. Who knows if ATT wants to sell songs through the iphone. Or maybe this will be a feature later on.

I will say this about GUI and iPhone. Because nothing is fixed on the iPhone. The possbilities of adding things like songs as ring tones, changing the layout, adding additional apps or widgets is there.

I hope apple offers these as free upgrades through itunes and doesn't wait until iPhone 2.0.

Being day one, I wouldn't say it's that huge. I'm going to say that if we don't see this by Xmas then it could another papercut for the iPhone.

I don't think it's wishful thinking to say that this will be a feature down the road. The "blank slate" design of the iphone makes this possible. It's now up to apple to deilver on this.

If you check over at www.tuaw.com people have found icons in iTunes 7.3 that look to be for adding ringtones...but they're hidden right now.

Dagger I truly feel bad for you. The problem was with Apple. They did plan for the event but were still backed up (Think about it. 10 million people trying to do this around the same time). The person who was first in line to buy the iphone at our store was having the same problems. Where did you buy the phone from? Georgia? Because I know that a lot of people who bought it outside of their area were having problems getting things going and you did mention buying it in a different time zone for an earlier release date. We are honestly not really trained to know anything about the phone(just the plan and to let people know what they're getting into) and it's all about apple. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask and I will try and help you out as best as I can. For future reference if anyone is having problems call 1-800-my-iphone. Yes I know it's more then 10 digits but for some reason it works? Also, my co-workers and I were talking about if a person has no insurance and out of their warranty and are happy with AT&T's coverage, that they should highly consider the iphone seeing as though non-contract prices are ridiculous. Funny part is we would make more commision on the non-contract phone than the iphone.

That's not necessarily true. I work in the tier 2 and 3 levels of this industry and in Apple's case they are likely the middle man forwarding new activation info to AT&T.

The issue mostly likely the case is with the carrier who has to release the phone number, for number portability issues, or just heavy system loads on AT&T's end. I go through these issues week in and week out and it can get frustrating.

But anyways... I got my iPhone this afternoon from an Apple Store (no waiting, but crowded as heck) and it only took an hour to port everything from Verizon. I'll say that was the quickest port-to-activation I've ever encountered.
