Your drastic examples aren't anywhere CLOSE to my example and lead me to believe you completely missed the point. 1st gen iPod supporting video playback? If you want to be that drastic, how about the shuffle playing movies?!

No kidding... it's a business blah blah blah... we know all that. Offering the slight "upgrades" as only bullet points to sell a new product is something Apple does often with their line of products.

They, are however, well known for innovation, despite their so often refusal to provide current owners with tiny, minimal upgrades that are possible.

Expect the same with the iPhone. Tiny, annoying quirks that can easily be fixed with an update... yet never will.

I had no pity for the lady whatsoever. Go get a real job instead of flashing your husband's cash. Now she probably won't even make back that $800 she bought the spot for and on top of that embarassed on TV, serves her right.

Good for the kid for buying himself all the accessories . I laughed so hard when the reporter said he was with a group of 3 and they only wanted 2 phones. And I loved it how the kid was sort of showing up the wife with the "too bad so sad" attitude at the end there... "I don't think the lady was too happy with you" "Oh really?" .

Well I didn't miss your point but I also don't see where you have an arguement.

The iPhone while considered an revolutionary product could also be could a pretty darn good evolutionary product. While I'm not expecting the phone to be 3G in this version I also know that Apple has built a device where they could update the could update the UI to get drastic upgrades. And they've hinted as much. I think this approach is great.

So if you are comparing Tiger and Leopard, then I guess you have a point. But what are they supposed to do? Pull a windows and take 10 years to release a new OS? If you are pissed they release OS every 2-3 years with some evolutionary features and maybe 1 or 2 revolutionary features, I don't know what you want.

Bottomline -- Apple is no different from any other business. They have to offer products every so often to make a buck. I think their upgrades are different enough to warrant a new device or new software.

I have zero problem supporting Apple if their product is good. The iPhone is a great device. Now if this phone was like the old Rokr then ya I would be pissed.

So what does the future bring for this phone. I don't know but let's compare the iPod through it's releases. Each version was something different. From the iPods to the micro and nanos to the changes of the scroll wheel and video, each was a release of a better iPod. Each one was released with a reasonable amount of time that didn't really piss off early adapters.

You're still missing the point. Either way, as Rock said, this is about the iPhone, a revolutionary device that, IMO, will not be supported once the new "in" thing is released.

Do you have the option of selecting different views in iPod mode in the iPhone ala iTunes? Or are you only able to scroll through your music via Album art?

I'm curious b/c it looks pretty damn ugly scrolling that way if you don't have album art.

I believe there are two views, one with album art and another which is just a list. The list you can sort via artist, genre, etc.

Those are the basic views, right? From everything I've seen you only have:

Horizontal: Album art
Vertical: List

If so, that's a bit disappointing. Anyway, thanks for the info. If there are any other options, I'd like to know.

why is that disappointing? Its much easier to pick your music than the scroll wheel. There is an alphabet on the right side, so you can get to any letter just by touching it, then slide to the music with your finger. Much quicker and much more intuitive.

It's disappointing because you don't have options. No need to get upset; Just because you might fall in love with it doesn't mean others will. And like I said, Album art view looks terrible if you don't have album art on all your music.

I'm not upset, I am just curious why you think that is disappointing? It's a superior way to find you music. I'm not sure whats disappointing about it.

I believe that by the end of your 2 year contract there will be at least 3 new iPhone versions with better hardware, etc. They will upgrade software a lot though, and those upgrades should apply to all versions of the iPhone.

Quick way to type periods and commas!

This was driving me crazy, and this makes it a lot easier. Instead of three finger taps required for a period, its now down to one

So here’s what you can do, all in one motion:

1. Touch the “.?123” key, but don’t lift your finger as the punctuation layout appears.

2. Slide your finger a half inch onto the period or comma key, and release.

Incredibly, the ABC layout returns automatically. You’ve typed a period or a comma with one finger touch instead of three. In fact, you can type ANY of the punctuation symbols the same way.
