Well, I'm using my early upgrade on AT&T which tacks an extra $200 onto the upgrade cost. So the 5S 32gb would cost $500, and with the $300 trade in, I'm only paying $200 for it out of pocket. Not bad. But yes, it starts my contract over from the day I get it. I suppose I could but it outright, but that would cost $700ish before trade in.

No, but its one of those things that will most likely happen. September 10 is the date that the 5S, and an entry-level '5C' are expected to be announced. (Its basically guaranteed according to everyone, even though Apple hasn't said anything.)

They announced that the 5s has a 64bit architecture, which I think is pointless if this doesn't have at least 4gb of RAM

See, normally I'd say there wasn't enough for me to upgrade, but I can get over $300 for my 32gb 5, and AT&T just sent me my $150 deposit that I made last year when I started my account. So with my early upgrade, the 32gb 5S will cost $500, so only $50ish will come out of pocket. That's a no brainer for me.

The 5C and the 5 are quite literally the same phone, minus the color and plastic back.
