I have the newest verson of iTunes...

Let me ask this, does it have to be a song purchased off of iTunes? If so, that might be the problem as I have not tried with a song I got from iTunes.

I also have the newest version on itunes. I have only done the ringtones with songs that I didn't buy from itunes.

You all have the 8gb or 16gb?

I got the 8g but I am thinking I should have went bigger, isn't the SDK and 3g going to take up more space?

3G isn't a downloadable update, it's a connection to the phone company that provides faster internet...it will be in a new phone model if they decide to go that route (it's all just a guess, no 3G iPhone has been announced). The space just depends on how much stuff you end up putting on it...how much music, movies, etc...

Aaah so 3g willbe a brand new phone? Doh... maybe I should have waited.

I went with the 8gb because I don't think I'll download vides or movies, just have music on it, so I figured it would be plenty of songs using the 8gb. I am just wondering how much storage the SGK and the applications will take up...

I wouldn't necessarily be mad you got the phone now. With all phones and whatnot, and especially Apple things, there's always the "new feature" you could wait for. 3G hasn't even been announced or anything yet...maybe a year away or even never.

I have no clue on the SDK, nor what people will make for them. I personally have a 16GB iPod Touch and I've got maybe almost 7 or so GB free...but my music collection isn't that big (that's all my music). Honestly, I bet you can work around the size, I can't see you putting that much on via the SDK.

                  That's true...

I called the store I got it from and he said it would be fine if I brought it back and exchanged it for the 16gb I just have to pay the difference, but he said there was a 10% restocking fee, it seems the guy who sold me my phone forgot to mention that part when I asked him if I didn't like the phone how long I had to bring it back.

Kind of pisses me off that it wasn't mentioned.

                    1. Pick the portion of the song l want to use.
                    2. Convert it to acc
                    3. Drag the acc copy to my desktop and rename .m4a to .m4r
                    4. Double click on the .m4r and then it automatically goes into the ringtones section of itunes

Ok it works. Thanks for this!

Just make sure that it's 30 secs long. On your converted file sometimes it will come up 29.999 secs or something. Go to "Get Info" just to double check. Those won't work.

Also in the preference folder make sure you have the AAC settings to Highest or High Quality. I had custom for some reason, and some songs just wouldn't work. Once I switched every song can not be a ring tone.

Just go to the store say it wasn't mentioned and that you asked this question explicitly.

How are you guys editing you're ringtones so they fit 30 seconds? What are you using to do this with custom ringtones?

                          No special program.

Watch the video it has the details but...

                          1) Go to song you want.
                          2) Right Click and select "Get Info"
                          3) Go to options where you select start stop time.
                          4) Enter in values to create 30 second song. (So 0:00 to 0:30 or 1:16 to 1:46 etc.)
                          5) Right click and select Export to AAC.
                          6) Click and drag created song to desktop.
                          7) Change extension from .m4a to .m4r
                          8) Drag song back into itunes.

At this point, you songs should appear in the Ring tunes section of Itunes.

Sync' your iPhone and your new songs should appear.

Works with update and any song.

Thanks fellas. I am not sure what I was doing wrong.

Okay it worked, I was missing one step..

What I needed to do was go to preferences and check the box that said copy files to iTunes. After I did that it worked fine, so that had to be the step that was missing

Okay I just had something weird happen. When I was syncing my iPhone, my pc turned off and the reboot button light was yellow'ish orange and it wouldn't let me turn it back on until a minute or two had pass.

                                Any idea why?
