I think it's more an example of a judge getting pissed off that a sheriff deliberately ignored his orders than anything else.

I think you're right, but it would also require writing the jokes and maybe changing the sketches they had planned for the night.

I don't think they'd scrap the sketches they've made, they'd push them back.

Plus, when did this "story" start, 9 am EST? I was awake at 11:30 and they were running it then. Gives them plenty of time to think out sketches and jokes... because the writing was definitely on the wall anyway.
