wow that sucks, too bad a lot of people don't like shows that make you think, they'd prefer some nonsensical comedy like that stupid Jim Belushi sitcom (god I hate that show!!!0

      Re: John from Cincinnati

Finally watched the last three episodes and I really enjoyed the series (a shame that it's already a "series" and not a season ).

Lot of deep stuff going on in that last episode, especially the "Mother of God Cass Kai" at the very end.

I'm surprised HBO isn't keeping it around...it has a niche and it's on a pay network.

Very disappointing. I was looking forward to a Season 2 to clear some things up. First "The Class", now this.

The one ironic thing about this is it's why I often never give new shows a chance, i'm afraid i'll like them and they'll go away. So the more these networks cancel stuff, the more their ratings will continue to go downhill is my opinion. It's why people cling to watching old shows like E/R and the like, they know they are reliable shows to be around, even if they are crappy.

Man, I really didn't see it coming (since I don't really pay attention to what ratings a show is getting). This sucks, I really loved that show. They better not cancel Flight of the Conchords!

Flight of the Conchords doesn't get much love at OS but it is hilarious.

Some blurbs from an interview with David Milch with Tavis Smiley (PBS):

Milch: This is a show in which I tried - I wanted to come back to the original idea. If God were trying to make himself known with a particular urgency because the apocalypse is coming, and if the difficulty was not with his faculty of communication but rather with our capacity to understand.
                    and
Tavis: And I'm with you so far. You choose, though, a dysfunctional surfer family as the vehicle to impart whatever it is that Milch is trying to impart to us - whatever the characters are trying to say to us. Tell me how that choice becomes -

Milch: The idea that the universe is a solid system but a series of waves. And that man is not an individual creature, but that his essence is carried from seeming individual to seeming individual is available to surfers if they aren't loaded and selfish or if they don't become addicted to the behavior of surfing itself. Doesn't often happen.
                    one more

Tavis: "John From Cincinnati." And the title comes from?

Milch: The German mathematician Leibniz spoke of monads - indissoluble pieces of matter which God used to create the universe. And this guy's name on a credit card which appears in his hand is John Monad. And butchy surfer junky (unintelligible) member Monad, he says, "You look like the kind of guy that would come from Cincinnati." And John, who purifies the intention of anything that anyone says to him, says, "I am from Cincinnati."
I think it clears the show up pretty well and was in line with what I was thinking (and what trobinson echoed earlier). I never watched 'Deadwood', which was also prematurely shelved, but I'm pretty upset that HBO won't continue with this show (and stunned that Milch isn't pissed off and will continue working with them). The way I see it is an audience of five million is five million guaranteed subscribers. Just put an hour of JFC in wherever, as opposed the the upteenth re-airing of 'Batman Begins' or whatever "Movie of the Week".

Amen man. Its really sad how some great shoaws get canned. It's good to see the creator's intent, and makes me more interested the show. I knew the name Johnny Monad was significant in some way, but I had no clue. I thought at first it was just Nomad rearranged.

I couldn't get into this show, so no big loss to me. Only show now left on HBO that my wife and I watch is Big Love. Big Love started out good this season, but the last 2 episodes have been somewhat blah! I was reading rumors today that DEADWOOD might be coming back now that this was cancelled.

Well what's really interesting is all the lines about the "towel heads" being eradicated. I thought it was all post-9/11 paranoia, and yet it seems that it held deeper context (i.e. "radical Islam" taking over the planet and such). A bit un-PC, but still relevant especially from the right wing Christian worldview of a partial deity.

Why else would God want himself to be known? You can only assume that future seasons might address an attempt to STOP the impending annihalation and John intervening there.

Again, a damn shame it's being canned...and since HBO already has your money, a ground roots campaign (like CBS and 'Jericho') will probably fall on deaf ears.

Candy, my wife and I have like seven episodes of that on our DVR. We just haven't had the time to watch it!

It's amazing how "trashy" shows like that (and Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives) just get so damn addicting!
