What's your point? Someone tried to say that he had a point when it really just sounded like he was whining and was mad cause he didn't get what he wanted. And as far as your "backpacker" hatred, a majority of the stuff on the radio is crap just dudes talking about shooting, women, and how they used to sell drugs. That **** is what's giving hip hop such a bad name today. But even with that I still like listening to some of it but there's only so many times that people can listen to the exact same songs over and over again.

Re: Graduation - Kanye West
The hyped up September 11th releases were both a flop to me. I like Kanye's album a lot from a production standpoint. However, his lyrics just aren't doing anything for me. 50's album is garbage.
The Little Brother Getback sampler sounds great! Looks like they're trying to show a bit of versatility on this one. Give me that and that new Hell Rell lol.Comment

Re: Graduation - Kanye West
i hope this cd is better after I run through it for a 2nd, 3rd or 4th time cause I'm disappointed right now. I'm trying to be fair and listen to the whole song but I got a lot I want to skip. There ain't no 6 singles for sure. But to a casual or maybe fringe rap fan the beats are lacking compared to his last two albums. Nothing just draws me in other than a few songs.
Sp much of rap is nursery rhyme and cartoony these day that it bores me and even when it's catchy enough to sound good it has a short shelve life. So outside of classic R&B when it comes to new music I primarily follow trance, House and country. With electronic music the beats or whatever you want to call it is way more innovative, interesting, and fresh then the 4 or 5 producers in hip hop and pop. And I appreciate that in country music then lyrics have some substance, tell a story and have imagery. I hate that hip hop lacks painting a picture when you hear it. I've heard about the money, hoes, gangster life a billion times already. Give me something relevant to my life ever now and again. Even R&B songs or what we half way consider R&B lack imagery in my opinion. A majority of the love songs suck compared to things from the 60's and 70's. Today it seems all rhythm no blues.
I think this CD has a much different feel or tone vs the first two.
What I do like: Homecoming, Good Morning, Stronger
Maybe like:Flashing Lights, I wonder
But from the last 2 CD's:
Spaceship, Get Em High, Two Words, Family Business, Thru the Wire, Gone, All Falls Down, Heard 'Em Say, Jesus Walks, Touch The Sky, My Way Home, Drive Slow, Roses, School Spirit, Last Call and Dilated Peoples - This Way
I list almost that whole dropout cd. Im sure the cd will grow on me but either way it's got to be better than anything from 50.Last edited by marque1d; 09-12-2007, 11:42 PM.Comment

Bigeast, I dont know where you get this idea that I'm some underground backpacker. It seems like the only reason why you say that is because I said Sean Price put out the best album of the year.
Do you know how much music I listen to? Mainstream or underground...I'm not a bacpacker who just listens to underground stuff.-Jay Illestrate, Emcee/Producer/Graphic Artist

Dropout is a classic IMO, Late Registration I didn't like as much, but I like this one much more than LR and so far I am really digging it. I've already listened to it 3 times and I am still digging it so I like it.Comment

Re: Graduation - Kanye West
This cd is pretty hot... Almost up there with College Dropout. 10 tracks I like, one I can deal with (Barry Bonds), and one that almost f***** the whole album up (Drunk n Hot Girls). He shoulda got Jay and Common on the album somewhere and shouldn't have put Homecoming on the album (I heard it two years ago on the Freshman Adjustment Mixtape) or at least kept John Legend on the track.Comment

Re: Graduation - Kanye West
I am the exact same way. I used to be so big into the underground scene. I used to DJ. I used to go to all the shows. I used to buy and support all their music and that was on vinyl.
Now, unless Bootcamp is having a show, I'm not going.
I want to listen and buy the best music out there, regardless of the genre.
These little backpack cornballs who have pissing contests on who knows more about Hip-Hop simply because they know Aesop Rock's latest album verbatim. These kids were born after 85 so they can't tell me ****. I'm 31. Been there, done that.
He was told to show up at the awards because they told him that his video won video of the year. When he showed up and they gave the award to someone else, he blew up.
Listen, I don't give a **** about his tantrums. His tantrums aren't playing in my MP3 player or in my car or in my house.
But Graduation bumps in all of them.
Damn man, thank you, thank you. It gets annoying as hell when almost every thread about a hip hop artist turns into that. I don't have anything to add on your statement except I'm glad you made it.
As For Kanye's album, i had a good feeling when somebody posted the previews in this thread that I was going to like it. I picked it up yesterday and I gotta say, it's tight. I got a copy of Curtis too, I haven't heard much yet though, I'm loving Graduation. Favorite songs early Champion, The Glory, Big Brother and surprisingly, the intro, Good Morning.
I have never known what people are expecting when they say Kanye isn't a good rapper. I mean damn, I'm not saying the greatest of all time but this dude has had some sick lyrics on every album I've heard from him. You can't be on all the time, but I've been impressed over the years with his flow. I can't do it, I know that much.PS: You guys are great.

Re: Graduation - Kanye West
What's with everyone hating on Aesop?
I'm not feeling Graduation at all, just the track "big brother", and it's not even CLOSE to being the best album of the year.
Does that make me a backpacker?
I like Aesop Rock's new album better then Graduation.
