Ok, then my question would be about Richard. He's native to the island, he gets access to the submarine only after the Dharma group is destroyed. He must have other means on and off the island. He's got that company that recruited Juliet. He's a doctor in the "outside" world.

I think we need a back story on Richard and his clan. They were supposedly "natives" to the island. He's obviously tied to the outside world. There has to be other means to the outside world for him besides that sub. Because I can't imagine he could take off in that sub, park it in Seattle or whatever city, gain relationships with people, set up a ficticious company, trick Juliet, and come back.

I think when he met Ben the first time, he was in a costume to appear native to the island. This guy must have a very long history that we need insight into.

Why does he have to have other means on and off the island? He recruited Juliet and brought her to the island in the submarine, and hasn't been off the island since the sub was destroyed. The company he "represented" is a front. It is not a real company. This was said in the extras on the S3 Blu-Ray. I don't know where you got the idea that he is a doctor in the outside world since that has never been conveyed to the audience. As for his aging, it surely is tied to the fact that people recover more quickly on the island.

I think what you are getting at is that there is far more to The Others than we know right now, as they obviously must have some sort of funding to set up this massive facade. You keep saying he "must be" tied to the outside world, but I don't see any indication of this.

i do not believe we will get a follow up flash back on Richard - He is on another show right now on CBS and probably would not be able to commit to anything for the future unless the show he is on gets cancelled. Same deal that happened with Walt's dad - he was on another show and it did not get picked up, so he is again part of future plot lines for Lost....

An intersting thing about the originally plane crash and it possibly being fake/staged...

Is there a single character who lost someone during the actual crash? I know the marshall who was transporting Kate died of the injuries but that was after the fact.

Rose and Bernard eventually found each other. But I can't recall a single character losing a companion/loved one/friend, etc in the actual crash and never found their body or anything. There were 323 people on board, 50 or so survived and NONE of them had someone they know die in the crash. Seems too convenient.

The company Richard represented, the Mittelos Bioscience, was created by Ben as a front. Richard and Ethan could have hidden the sub anywhere in the sea while they did their business in Florida. Richard's backstory has yet to be explained prior to meeting a young Ben. He could be another Dharma reject or a native to the island.

So Ben is Richard's "Boss". For some reason, I didn't get that impression. How come Richard doesn't age, but Ben does? Thats why I thought Richard was native to the island. Of a different "race". And I can't remember why, but I had the impression that he would come and go from the island while others didn't.

I understand that Ben can hear Jacob so that would give him some island cred, but I didn't ever get the impression he could give orders to Richard.

What do you mean? How do you explain Jacob in the first place. Some phantom in a rocking chair with Gilligan shoes on. And if Jacob is Jack's father, Jack has seen him too, I think it was season 1.

Jacob is only visible to those with a special connection to the island, right?

So far we only know of three people for sure: Ben, Locke and Hurley.

What's Hurley's special connection to the island? We've never been given any indication of this in the past, correct?

Does Ben even hear him anymore? Maybe the only reason Hurley saw him was because Locke was playing Euchre with him at the kitchen table. Thats the only explanation I would have is that Jacob was making himself visible for Locke and Hurley saw it.

Although, Hurley couldn't leave the area either, so it was pretty clear he was supposed to see Jacob.

I don't really know what to make of the Jacob angle? A secluded shack is the inner sanctum of the island?
