"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
Richard is with the rest of the Others at the temple. Another guy Ben could use off the island is Jin, he's got some hitman-esque experience. Or Ben could strike a deal with Jin, in return for Sun being taken off the island, Jin has to keep the remaining Losties in check.Comment

Exactly. My wife likes to use them for everything which I can't stand, except for Lost. Got to try and make sure nothing slips by which is pretty much impossible on one viewing.Comment

Not sure how much of a spoiler this is since it doesn't give anyway any answers, but it is about what 2 questions are supposed to be answered during next week's ep, so just to be safe...
SpoilerNext week is supposed to explain why Kate wasn't in jail in the S3 finale FF and who the "he" she told Jack she had to get back to is.Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
It's not 31 minutes. It's 31 minutes based on a short distance in which that rocket was sent. But if that rocket decided to travel over a longer distance or for a longer time (whichever way you prefer to look at it) it would have taken longer.
So, the Losties aren't only 31 minutes behind the outside after spending 90 days on the Island.
They are likely years behind.Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
That wouldn't have to be the case. It would only be that way if the time difference grew, something like a blackhole where gravity is less the farther you are away, so the island doesn't effect things far away, so time passes normally. Taking that into account, we don't know what actually happened with the payload. Was the clock telling the time or was it a stopwatch? I think it had to be a stopwatch otherwise how would the time change on the watch on the island? Either you set it before you left or you set it there using your watch, which wouldn't change time. So in stopwatch, it took 3+ hrs to get there, but on the island, only 2.5+ hrs had elapsed.
Either that or time does literally move slower on the island and even watches are affected by that.
I'm trying to remember if there's ever been a working watch on the Island.
I know Jin has the watch he's supposed to deliver but I keep getting this feeling that Michael tells him it doesn't work.
But then there's Jack's watch that he hands Hurley to watch Claire's contractions and I don't remember what Hurley said about that, if anything."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
I'd still leave it in spoilers in case somebody didn't want to know the name but I think if you dropped the name everyone would expect those things to be explained.
This is the new, faster Lost. We're getting answers pretty quickly. Had this happened in Season One, we'd still be asking what happened."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. CRAP!
I was thinking today that if time off the island is different than time on the island and time on the island appears to go at a much slower speed than I had a couple thoughts:
1) The Black Rock Pirate ship may have been where Richard and the other non-Dharma may have come from. They wouldn't have aged much since coming to the island.
2) But then I started thinking about Ben....He may have been aging because he goes to and from the island aging normally when he is in the regular world.
But then....What about the French chick. They timed the loop of her message going on for 16 years. Her child Alex also has aged to the age of 18. Now given that its been 16 years of Island time because she has clearly gone from an infant to an 18 year old, our theory is cashed. Becauuse 16 years island time would be what 50 to 100 years of off island time if our theory was in place. Based on the instruments and technology she had, I don't think her boat crashed 50 to 100 years ago.
What happened to the mysterious illness that killed her crew?
I think its going to fun when its all said and done to try & shoot holes in the writers progression of this show.
Also the helicoptor crew clearly knows who Penelope Whitmore is. However, I think they know of her and don't work for her. I think her Dad is behind the crew and stuff will hit the fan when Desmond goes back to the boat and her Dad finds he made it off the island.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

That would explain why pressing the button in the hatch was so important... because not doing so would essentially mess up time on the island.
Who knows... this story line has become so complexed that any sort of speculation is pointless.Comment

I also think about Richard Alpert. He doesn't age (it seems) but he's been off the Island as well (ie recruiting Juliet). So shouldn't he begin to age?
I'm not sure what to think of all this. It could very well be something that only affects those that are from the Island. But then that would have to mean that Alpert was born there and wasn't a member of the Black Rock crew.
I know it seems like there are holes but I think we also need to realize that we don't completely understand the time difference yet. I've made my theories but the only one I'll stick by is that time is different. How or why? I won't even try to start with that anymore."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied.
