I just thought of something. If the island is 31 minutes ahead/behind regular Earth-time, why was Daniel able to communicate with the freighter in real time?

Anyway, based on that half of the book I don't see the relation. Flu and people on an island? Maybe I need to finish the book.

I forgot the specifics, but they directly mention it on a Blu-Ray extra talking about literature's influence on the show. I think the whole 15-16 people banding together to fight "evil" and save the world part of it is what they meant.

It's not 31 minutes. It's 31 minutes based on a short distance in which that rocket was sent. But if that rocket decided to travel over a longer distance or for a longer time (whichever way you prefer to look at it) it would have taken longer.

So, the Losties aren't only 31 minutes behind the outside after spending 90 days on the Island.

          They are likely years behind.

I'm sure that the flash-forwards happen almost immediately after they get off the Island. It doesn't take 3 years for Jack to crack. It probably takes a few months.

            Oh, alright, that makes sense.

Yea, I think Ben is going to lead this revolution. He really is the good guy.

OK, that makes sense, but it doesn't explain why they were talking to each other in real time.

I totally agree with this. I've thought it since he said it at the end of Season 2.

Eh...I'm still trying to think this one out.

It's crazy and a good question.

If Daniel didn't get the rocket till 31 minutes later then he shouldn't have gotten Regina's transmission till 31 minutes later. Right?

I don't understand what the difference could be unless satellite transmissions are unaffected by time.

I think that's gonna be the explanation.

If that is indeed the case then I'm wrong about Charlie and Penny. I'm beginning to think I'm wrong about that anyway.

Maybe Naomi knew Penny but Penny never actually sent Naomi to rescue Desmond.
