I will also be very ticked if the pre-crash connections were all coincidence. There's no way it is though, the writers wouldn't do all that work if it was coincidence. As Locke says, "Everything happens for a reason."

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
Another strange thing about last night's episode (which I read on another board), if you look at the clock in the hotel room scene the page to Elsa was 30 minutes late, just like the payload rocket was 30 minutes late when it finally landed on the island.
Was Elsa's boss simply late or is he on the island?
Yep. Did anyone notice how Jack and the pilot were talking about the Red Sox winning the World Series just before the rocket landed? I'm guessing this wasn't random. I think it's "current time" in the outside-Island world, and that the pilot thought Jack was referring to the Red Sox winning the 2007 Series, not 2004.
This would explain "tall Walt" for one. I'm guessing that some or all of the Oceanic 6 will return to the island after months/years in the outside world to find that days/weeks have passed for their fellow Losties. Let's say the 6 leave the island at the end of Season 4, then we follow the exploits of Locke, Sawyer, etc. on the island for 10 episodes or so, and Jack (or whoever reappears) after a few days/weeks, and all of the flashforwards we're seeing now will have already happened...Thoughts?Comment

I agree. I don't think there's much of a chance that the writers won't at least attempt to tie it all together.Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
I read the post incorrectly (there isn't a clock). Elsa said in German you were supposed to call at 10:30, not 10. However, only "You were supposed to call at 10:30" was translated on the subtitles. So the caller was actually 30 minutes early, not late as I posted. The timing was definitely off.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
Well, Jack is, of course. He also pointedly mentions not believing that he hasn't seen a Red Sox game in 100 days. Before the pilot can respond, the rocket lands 31 minutes late, with there being a strong implication that time is passing much more rapidly off the island. Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
I still don't think it's time travel. I have always considered, and mentioned as recently as last week's episode, that time on the island is different from time off the island.
I like all the explanations but I don't agree with there being two of everyone. I don't think this is people jumping through time. It's something else that involves the electro-magnetic force that was on the island.
I've tried to think this one out and the one thing that keeps jumping back at me is Ben. If Ben is freely traveling on and off the island then wouldn't there be several of him too?
I don't think that's the case because Ben needs several passports with him.
I can't explain the rabbit video. I don't understand what's going on there.
Anyway, this goes back to my theory on Penny and the boat. I still believe it is Penny's boat. I'm not sure if it's in this thread or the Season Three thread but I mentioned that I think Penny doesn't know about the boat that Charlie speaks about because the transmission that Charlie is getting is from the past.
The rocket confirms this for me. Again, as everyone now knows, time is differnet on the island. So Penny wouldn't have known about the boat because she hadn't sent one just yet. It's possible that Charlie asking her about the boat is why she even considers sending one.
Also, what did Sayid say to Ben just before Ben says, "Good" and then smach cut to end credits? I listened to that clip over and over again and can't understand the words.
And finally, I will agree that it is Michael on the boat. Ben has traveled off the island to meet with Michael, of the future. Much like Sayid is working for Ben (and possibly Kate) Michael is also doing work for Ben. Not sure what it is yet but I'm guessing that Ben finally told Michael what the hell is really going on and Michael is doing what Sayid is doing in the flash-forward - helping him prevent an eventual problem.
It's either that or it's the doubles thing and Ben doesn't want to say who's on the boat because it's probably Sayid."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. The latest was The Langoliers by Stephen King. Crazy movie.
Now I'm wondering if the people that survived the crash did something different from the ones that died. Obviously, it wasn't "staying awake" but why did some survive and not others?"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
The numbers on top of the police cruisers in the Police Headquarters for Ana-Lucia doesn't mean that there was strange crap going on there. It was just a way of saying, "Hey, we can get numbers in here too so lets give the fans soemthing else to say, 'snap, there's the numbers!'" And then you have them repeat.
Hurley and his winning the lottery and those numbers matching the hatch are just part of this. A way of saying, "Wouldn't it be weird if the one thing you fear the most just follows you around?" It's also kinda like how you learn a new word and then all of a sudden you start seeing it everywhere. I'm sure that's happened to you and anyone else reading this post. And if it's not with a word it could be something else.
I don't think the numbers were ever a big story. I think fans made them bigger than they really were and I credit the writers for not tracking off just to please the fans that think the numbers should mean something.
As for Ben. I don't understand how just because he's in more than 3 of the planned episodes all of a sudden means that the writers are veering off. It just means that they decided that "Random Guy X" will now be Ben instead of a new character. This is part of show business. It happens all the time.
Family Matters was still Family Matters once Jaleel White stuck on as Urkel. The show didn't change but they weren't going to write off the funny kid that draws fans. Ben obviously is very good at what he does and his character is extremely interesting so the writers decided that he would have a bigger role in the bigger story.
I don't understand why poeple think that every single minute detail is planned for a show. The only thing likely planned is the big story. The smaller details that make up that bigger story pretty much happen as you progress through the writing process. Ben isn't the bigger story so his inclusion in it doesn't mean that the writers have changed the focus."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

The basic idea of the story borrows quite a bit from The Stand, if you've read that/seen the TV miniseries.Listen to some of my covers:
