If Michael is on the boat, wouldn't Ben's orders be to make sure the frieghter never found the island? Why would Ben want them to find it? So he could kill them to eliminate the threat they pose? It doesn't seem to add up to Ben's frantic, "They cannot find this island! Do not radio them or we will all die!" Yet all along he wanted them to find the island?
Another good point. This kind of discussion is why I love the show.

now, ben is trying to get rid of the survivors, maybe he needed Michael to get the survivors rescued. After they are rescued he has something up his sleeve to protect the island again.

Like others I think Michael is the man on the boat... another random character introduction won't do here, so it has to be someone we've forgotten about--Michael. And I kind of feel like Walt will be the 4th member of the six so far... I wonder if there was some sort of deal to help Ben in exhange for getting Walt back home??

I'll bet Sun and Jin are two of the Oceanic 6.

Michael's name was actually in the credits at the start of the show (Harold Paranioux or whatever) and I was expecting to see him in the episode. I was actually PO'd because I thought that gave away the surprise of him coming back (in case you don't follow the off-set news that Harold was back on the show) kinda like they did with Walt in the S3 finale.

How do we now that more than six will not make it off and that Ben or Juliette will be hidden on the freighter from everyone else.
I don't know why you're saying that ben was only a 2 or 3 episode character? Is that common knowledge? The leader of the Others was only supposed to be in 3 episodes, that doesn't make sense to me...

His name was also in the opening credits of the season premiere. I'm sure they did that on purpose so it doesn't ruin the "surprise" of his return.

                  Ok.

Not sure why I keep seeing people say that Oceanic Flight 815 was setup to crash. There has been zero mention of that on the show.

Here's what I've gathered from the information presented to us.

The setup was a fake crash. Whoever knows that the Losties are alive wants to make sure no one looks for them. Probably because if someone does they'll find the Island.

The reveal of Frank knowing that couldn't be the Pilot of Flight 815 was to show us that someone figured it out. Someone in the real world knows that the plane found on the bottom of the sea was not Oceanic Flight 815. So he now asks himself...why are they covering up the crash with a fake crash?

Frank realizes something is up. But that's his story. We don't know how it connects to Adaddon, Naomi, and the other freighter people.

And it's important to note that Naomi was surprised to hear that there were survivors on Flight 815. So if Michael is on the boat why is Naomi out of the loop?

Also, Miles did act sarcastic but he probably has other things to be surprised over. And if he was with Frank most of the time then once they heard the names Jack and Kate over the radio phone they knew that there were survivors (remember, Frank memorized the manifest) For a guy that speaks to dead people on the regular, I doubt Miles would be much surprised over dead people being alive.

I don't think Michael returns in the present. I'm thinking he's in a flash-forward because Walt is older now and if you have Michael you have to have Walt. Can't have them together if Walt is much older than what three months should do to a kid. UNLESS, there really is something up with aging on the Island. Perhaps we should ask Alpert about that.

Locke - "What is the black smoke?"

                  Audience - "YES! Finally!"

                  And....no.

I thought his vision included a black helicopter, not blue and white like this one.

She's not getting off now. Too easy.

Desmond probably saw Claire being saved when the Oceanic 6 comes back to save their friends.

                        Obviously.

I don't know how much control Michael is going to have on the ship, it's not like those guys are just going to start listening to this dude they found in the ocean. Ben obviously knows everything (alot) about the people on the ship so the Looking Glass couldn't have been blocking all transmissions. Possibly those chicks were turning the blocker off and on for Ben when he asked.

I've seen comments where people are suggesting that the actual plane crash was set up.

That's the only reason I even brought it up. The only setup is the fake crash.

The larger issue is that Oceanic (in all likely hood) has no idea of the Island so they wouldn't set up the fake crash. So who did? Does Ben or anyone else really have THAT much power that they can conjure up the exact model of Oceanic plane that was 815 and place it on the bottom of the ocean?

it is common knowledge. The writers said he had a bigger impact with the audience so they created a bigger story for him, eventually they have to get back to the main story arc and when they do he is toast.

This happens a lot with shows. A new character surfaces and takes over. Urkel did it in Family Matters. Ben's character is too important to kill off now. You kill Ben, you kill any chance of knowing the vast secrets of the island. Locke won't let Ben die without knowing them all first. But once Locke has all the answers, Ben is toast, and Locke's taking over. Whoa, that just gave me a thought, while I still think John Locke is whose funeral Jack went to, he's not the one in the casket. I need to ponder this further.
