Air traffic controllers prevent death and destruction. Television writers entertain, nothing more.

BTW i'm sure the shows that are hit the hardest will be "cancelled" but return the year after. It's not like these shows are gonna be gone forever.

I'd assume quite a few viewers would lose interest in a show that was gone for over a year.

The worst part I see coming from this (since I don't have a show that I watch religiously every week) is the mass number of reality TV shows that pop up. I really thought there wasn't a way we could have anymore, but this could double them.

I wouldn't object to game shows though.

if writers want to shoot themselves in the foot by striking, go right ahead. All it does is make them look stupid, especially since this isn't the late 60's when people all sat down and watched tv as a family. On the other side, the network suits bathe in cash from things like DVD sales, so it's not like they couldn't easily accommodate anyone's hand in the cookie jar.

There's so many things to do for entertainment, that I routinely miss shows I even like just because I don't have tivo or anything. I would have never even noticed this was an issue if not for browsing on here, while not watching tv.

I can handle this for them, these jerks strike, hire new, nonunion writers. Hell, Crossing Jordan is surviving via an online community, I can't speak for the quality, but there are people out there who could probably create better shows than the generic crap we see today.

Maybe for crappy shows but not shows like Scrubs.

Not entirely true. The anchors and production assistants do most of the writing; and I doubt any of them are in the writer's guild. But it's not like the whole show is being winged up there.

The best thing that could happen to that abomination of a network (ESPN) would be for almost everyone associated with it ("writers", on air "talent", etc.) to fall off a cliff....forget striking.
