Re: Who likes Tool?
LOl there is no comparison. Imo Tool is on a completely different level then Metallica. Metallica shouldnt even be compared to Tool not even in the same breath. I could get in depth about it, but I guess its a matter of opinion.Handshakes at sunriseComment

Re: Who likes Tool?
Tool aren't underrated at all. Groups that are underrated don't sell millions of cds every time they release one and get constant radio play like Tool. Oh, and Tool and Metallica definately don't belong in the same sentence.Comment

Push-it (live version)
Third Eye
Lateralus (love the time signature changes in that one -- great riff)
Honorable mention to "Jerk-Off", "Part of Me", and "Hooker With A Penis", which are their most headbangiest songs IMO. Love the drums on HWAP -- Carey kills it as usual.Comment

Re: Who likes Tool?
You know I kind of thought that at first too, but much like a certain other guitarist who doesn't play very pretty, Larry Lalonde of Primus, Adam has his own distinct style and it really fits that bands sound. They don't really try to sound like technical masters like someone like Dream Theater.Comment

Re: Who likes Tool?
Yeah, Tool, and Adam Jones aren't really looking to blow anyone away with guitar solos. I guess I just sort of expect his playing to be what it is and don't look to be impressed with flashy solos when listening to them.
His approach seems to be all about the rhythm and how the guitar part fits in with the drums/bass. A lot of his stuff is actually pretty difficult, it just doesn't always sound that way because it's difficult in the rhythmic sense, not playing impressive leads.
He definitely has a unique style and sound and the end result is some bad *** songs!Comment

Re: Who likes Tool?
This when you're doing songs in 15/7 time signature you're not going to have a massive lead guitar.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Re: Who likes Tool?
I don't know where the idea of soloing came in, lol. For most bands that use solos, only 5% of an entire album is soloing. Time signature does not affect how much or little guitar you can use.
I never said that he's a bad player, or that he should do solos. I just personally find that his melodies run together a bit, especially in contrast to how unique the drummer is.
And no, his playing is not difficult. It's all very simple. It suits the band just fine and has a great mood and feel, but don't make it something that it's not. Besides, his playing doesn't bore me because of its simplicity. It's just his tendencies become very predictable, so I find myself accidentally tuning out the guitar and just listening to the drums, or Maynard after a while. Guitar is my favorite instrument, so that's a minus for me. It's a personal thing, not a judgement on his playing.Last edited by Bornindamecca; 06-22-2009, 02:08 PM.Comment
