Bruce Springsteen's new one (cant remember the title)...and Stoney Larue's live record are two records that stand out for me this year.

I don't listen to new mainstream music much at all. Most of the mainstream music I listen to, came out in the mid to late 90's. These days I'd say almost all of the music I buy is all electronic of some sort. DnB, psytrance and so on. I'd bet 99% of the CD's I buy, 99% of people on this website have never heard of.

Thanks for posting your list though. I'll probably check some of them out just to see if there is anything in there I like. I'll never know unless I try.

That's because most people that don't listen to emo use the word as a derogatory term. Not saying you were PK, but in my experience that's the only time I hear the word used.

The only album I bought in 2007 was the new Wu Tang. I may buy the new Ghostface, but I was not informed that it was coming out.

The Wu Tang album kind of sucks.

That Hurt Vol II thing...wow..it's always interesting to see people who actually like nu-metal/pop metal. I can't help but feel revulsion at every oversimplified and repetitive riff. It's interesting, because in my circle of friends, there isn't one person who is into that stuff. Wow. God bless those guys and that WWE style approach to metal, but I just can't get into that zone.

I guess I'll throw an album out there.

Kryptic Minds & Leon Switch - "Lost All Faith" Nice little DnB album that I'm guessing nobody else here would care for.

                          1. Strata - "The End of the World"

                          2. Alter Bridge - "Blackbird"

                          3. Submersed - "Immortal Verses"

Just tagging this thread for later reading so I can pick up some good music.
NCAA Vets League: Arkansas Razorbacks (9-2, 6-1)
MLB OS League: Seattle Mariners (9-2)

IMO this is the second best thread to go to if you're in the mood for some good music.

I'm guessing you're judging Hurt based solely off of Two Ton Brick(the song Experiment posted) when it's the only song of it's kind that is on that album and IMO is one of the weak spots of the album. It's basically just a radio-friendly song to get the mainstream audience to purchase the CD

Overall, the CD is damn good. They're one of the few "mainstream" bands that I really enjoy anymore. I don't know if there's any active vocalist who can express emotion as well as Loren does in his music. The music behind him varies from just about every genre of rock out there(including nu-metal, as you mentioned). Listening to their music, I hear different elements from other bands such as Tool, Pearl Jam, Porcupine Tree, and Mudvayne that they fuse all together and then throw their own touch on it to make it their own.

It is definitely an album that takes a few listens to really enjoy. At first I didn't think Vol. II held a candle to their first CD, but after a few listens I can barely listen to Vol. I anymore because it just sounds like garbage compared to the second.

                                Anyways, back on topic...

I think my 10 fave that I've heard so far are as follows:

Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero
                                Hurt - Volume II
Clutch - From Beale Streat to Oblivion
Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
The White Stripes - Icky Thump
                                Elliott Smith - New Moon
Marilyn Manson - Eat Me, Drink Me
Kings of Leon - Because of the Times
Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
Serj Tankian - Elect the Dead

Not really a definitive list for me this year though seeing as there's tons of CDs that I want to listen to that I haven't been able to due to time/money restraints. I still have yet to crack the wrapping off of Arcade Fire & Spoon's new CDs...and would like to get my hands on Iron & Wine's, Coheed & Cambria's, & Avenged Sevenfold's new CDs as well as alot of the CDs from Metacritic's site that are getting rave reviews. IMO this has been a bit of a down year for music...only three or four CDs that I've listened to so far that I have thought were great.
Co-Commish of the OS Vets I & II
                                Vets I | Green Bay Packers(11-6)
                                | Last Game: L 31-6 @ CAR (Wild Card Round)
Vets II | Washington Redskins(13-6) | Last Game: L 37-34 OT @ ATL (NFC Conference Championship)
