Bash me if you want but the LOTR films are all cinematic masterpieces but they're too damn long and esoteric!

Especially the first and last ones. The last two at least had some action but the first one was way too long and dry. The last one had like three different endings for no reason.

LOTR was great but I've watched each movie twice and I still feel that was unnecessary.

I own the trilogy but likely will never watch them unless someone I knew wanted to watch them with me. And they'd have to pull a good sale job to have me sit through 3 hours of something I've already seen.

That being said, I rarely ever watch a movie twice. Which is why I stopped buying DVDs.

That's why I only buy dvd's for movies that I like and know that I'll watch multiple times.

Based on Pan's Labyrinth, I think Del Toro would be an excellent choice.

The lawsuit is over and Del Toro and Jackson are apparently both working on the film according to imdb.com which shows Peter Jackson as writing it with Del Toro and being the executive producer.

I was a much bigger fan of the Hobbit book than the LOTR books, as blasphemous as that sounds. I've re-read them since I was kid and enjoyed the trilogy much more now, but the original Hobbit just holds a special place in my heart, the part of me thats still 10 and a reading obsessed dork.

Since the First Lord or the Rings bored me to tears, The second one was very good, and the third one kicked A**. One can only assume that the prequals will follow this pattern.

I still think The Hobbit was the best of the books. My favorite book I read in high school.

I can't wait to see the dwarves interact with Bilbo.

Changed the thread title so it included the actual name of the film.

Also, some news on The Hobbit.

We've already known it was going to be two parts long and, yes, after a lot of back-and-forth Peter Jackson will be producing, directing and co-writing.

The titles of both films has been released. Though, no one has confirmed.

The first film will be titled The Hobbit: There And Back Again which to fans of the book/series should recognize as the name of Bilbo Baggins' memoir.

The second film will be titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which actually makes sense once you know that the second film will not be a straight adaptation of the book.

The first film is a direct adaptation but the second film will be based on outside source material that links Bilbo's story with Frodo's. That comes as no surprise since an older Bilbo is confirmed for the second film.

Both films are slated for a 2012 and 2013 release respectively.
