Re: The Wire-Season 5
SpoilerBut it's also a chance to take the entirety of the Baltimore drug trade out of Prop Joe and the Co-Op's hands, which far outweighs any bitterness between Marlo and Avon in my estimation. Avon has always hated the East Side dudes and Prop Joe especially (Stringer working with Joe absolutely ate Avon up and was the primary cause of the betrayal), so I don't think him putting aside 2-year old beefs with Marlo is out of character. Smart strategy by both men if their goal is indeed to be successful drug dealers rather than living their lives according to manufactured rules of respect on the streets...
Yeah, Marlo took shots at Avon (and vice-versa), but as is often said in The Wire, "the game's the game" and both men understand that occasional rivalries and attacks are simply the nature of the beast. The greater good for both men would be cutting Prop Joe and the East Side out of the drug game entirely and then hashing out the rest on their own terms. I think that if they are successful, then we'll see the beef fire back up between the two after-the-fact... unless Avon's personality has REALLY changed since he's been in the pen. Avon is looking at the "here and now" to get what he wants -- he'll deal with Marlo later... that's how I see the situation anyway.
Great post.Comment

Definitely. He's the entire reason why he's in the pen currently. He'll get his revenge when the time is right.Cost of Super Bowl XLII ticket -$750

Re: The Wire-Season 5
SpoilerAvon didn't really want to kill Marlo to kill Marlo; Avon wanted to kill Marlo to get his corners. Between Omar, going to jail, giving up the towers, and losing Bird, Stink, and Weebay, Avon was looking weak. If you watch the last episode of Season 3, Slim and his people had Marlo, Chris, and Snoop alone and unarmed. Obviously the cops ****ed up the plan, but if Avon really wanted Marlo dead, he easily could have had it done. Marlo didn't really do anything to personally slight Avon. Marlo only killed 3 of Avon's people, two of which were in the botched assassination, and only one of the 3 killed was even named.
As for this season, if you watched the chocked full of unmarked spoilers making of and the "next week" it looks to be a pretty good few episodes.Comment

Re: The Wire-Season 5
You should have bought season 3. It's not only by far the best season of television I've ever seen, but a lot more relevant to the later story.Comment

Re: The Wire-Season 5
the main reason why Avon is in Jessup is because he was the top dog drug kingpin. He's in Jessup because he had the state spending all kinds of money to run a very extensive investigation on him for years to bring down his organization. McNulty and the crew are the reason why he's in the pen.
Marlo is the top dog now like Avon used to be...but His timing is better than Avon's was. Marlo is lucky that the city is in bad shape right now, but McNulty and co. are hell bent on bringing him down just like they brought down Avon.Last edited by ZB9; 01-10-2008, 09:21 PM.Comment

Re: The Wire-Season 5
the Greeks and Prop Joe would disagree. Season 2 shows where it comes from, where it ends up, and how it affects everything.
i dont think any of the seasons are connected to this season more than other seasons are. It seems that all of them are connected the same in leading up to this season. That's what makes this show so great right? Its all connected. He shouldnt skip anything.Last edited by ZB9; 01-10-2008, 09:19 PM.Comment

The only things up until now that have been affected by season 2 are *Season 2/3 spoilers for Aggie*Spoiler
1. Stringer getting killed (not all that relevant anymore)
2. Sergei being locked up
3. The creation of the coop (might have even been episode one of season 3)
Overall, the port storyline was completely irrelevant to the later seasons, as Prop Joe is still buying from the Greeks. The street story only really mattered in the last 2-3 episodes with the Brother, Stringer, and Joe triangle over the towers.
If he watched season 4, the whole "WHOMG Prop Joe buys from Vondas" scene would obviously not be all that big of a deal.
Obviously you don't want to skip anything, but from the standpoint of enjoying season 5, seasons 1 and 2 are mostly irrelevant. Season 3 introduces Marlo, Chris, Snoop, Slim, Cutty, Bunnie (well, he's in one scene in season 2), Justin, the entire political storyline, the Western police who work for Carver, far expands the Omar/Butchie relationship, deepens the Davis storyline, and concludes the fall of the Barksdales.
Plus it has Bernard, the two goofy kids who hang with Cutty, and the most underrated character in the entire series:
The fat man in the Barksdale safe house who claims all the guns in the building are his. Then one of the police picks up a hand grenade and he shrugs and tilts his head.Comment

na man. Marlo isnt the reason why Avon's in Jessup.

The place/warehouse got raided, as they were getting set up to make their way to the rim shop..the cops bust in and he was sent to jail (shortly after being released) yet again.Cost of Super Bowl XLII ticket -$750
