    Re: The Wire-Season 5

Anyone know any places to grab screencaps of the episodes?

I want to try and grab a picture of the car scene with Michael from episode 9, but haven't been able to find any.

Well I just finished season 3 and wow! I feel bad being so late on this show, especially since I live in the damn city. The show could not be any more realistic and I can't wait to pick up season 4 and 5 dvds. I keep hearing that 5 is not that great, but I heard people say the same about season 2, which I really liked too. The guy who plays Marlo must have studied Baltimore well cause he acts just like he could be a cold hearted Baltimore drug-kingpin.

I think season 5 is just wrapping things up... the pace is faster than normal but I dont think its horrible. It reflects back on old previous season characters and it shows the ending of current street legends and the beginning of new street legends.

I've loved Season 5 so far. Yeah it could have been fleshed out more but that's like saying a Porsche could have more intricate racing stripes, it's still a Porsche.

I always like to hear from the people of Baltimore about this show. What is your take on how they portray Baltimore? Do they get the type of people right? the slang and accents?

              Re: The Wire-Season 5

My main problem with this season is there have been more unrealistic elements put in. In all the other seasons the character progression and things that happened had a realistic pace to them which gave the show depth. This season, I'm not going to lie, it's been hollow in that regard. But I'm cutting them some slack because it's the final season and there is only 10 episodes, and they have soooo much to cover that it would be impossible to balance the elements like they did before. This season needed 20 episodes and an entirely new plot angle, I really don't like the direction they went on the main cop story. But it's still been a quality season, just not "the wire" quality. Considering they nailed it on 4/5 seasons I'm willing to cut them some slack.

I'm from Baltimore and the Wire portrays Bmore accurately. The only thing they dont get correct is the accents but I can look past that. Being from Baltimore, I can tell the actors who are from Bmore and the ones who arent. The only non Baltimoreans that did a decent job at getting the accent was Marlo and Stringer imo. For some reason, Mcnulty and Carcetti struggle with the "white" baltimore accent (There is a difference). You can tell Snoop and Prop Joe are from Bmore just from the accent.

Will make Sunday night more like an "event" night. This season hasn't had it's normal sharp/focused narrative that it has in seasons past, but even with that I still feel it's the best show I've seen on tv this season. And likely will be shamefully ignored come Emmy time once again.
Fresh news to be-I'm just hearing about it now, but am actually glad there doing it like this.

Yeah its the right move to make the finale sunday. makes me remember the first season when I would look forward to Sunday. Now I watch the show during the week, when I want.

I didn't grow up here, and have lived a few places, but when I got to Baltimore the first thing I noticed was the accent. I think eating Old Bay from the time your a kid is what causes it. Old Bay or maybe Bull pit.

McNulty is english, and Carcetti is Irish. To me, they do a pretty decent job.

I've been to Baltimore a lot but I never really noticed the accent until I started watching The Wire. The way they say words that end in o just sounds weird.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

So to pass the time while waiting for the finale on Sunday I've been watching the Season 1. The scene from episode 3 where D'Angelo explains chess to Wallace and Bodie is absolutely great. Absolute poetry!

Yep, can't add much to that. That was a great scene.

I think that the show has almost everything dead on. Only thing that bothers me is that they kinda portray Baltimore as a city with no hope. Baltimore is a safe city as long as your not involved with the drug trade. Like someone said earlier, you can tell who is really from Baltimore and who is trying to act like they are. Like the character Method Man plays Cheese, he acts nothing like a Baltimore hood in my opinion.

I dont really think they pushed him as authentic even with the storyline of him being Prop Joes nephew its not they said he was originally from BMore its not a stretch that he grew up outside of BMore...

As far as the no hope aspect I guess its a part of your perspective and the outlook you are coming from. In cities like Bmore Chicago, New Orleans etc there is a feeling of hopeless in some parts of the community because there are sooo many different issues that affect these areas and its at such a large scale.

As a general warning, it appears the Finale has leaked. I don't know if the spoilers are correct, as I clicked the x button before reading anything, but the IMDB boards seem to be abuzz with Ep 10.

I'll see you hoes Sunday night.
