    Re: Anime/Manga Discussion Thread

Question for any of you guys.

So I have my hard drive that's full of anime (or at least, it's working on getting filled up.) I don't, however, want to watch it all on my PC.

I have my modded PS3 I could watch it on, but that's just choosing the files from the folders... I was hoping that someone here would have some experience with Plex or some other type of front-end that could give a recommendation.

As of right now it looks like I'll have to build a HTPC-type deal for XBMC to get what I want. It all organized with a nice UI and "automatic" scraping, which makes me a bit sad.

Edit: As of right now, I'm just using the PLEX web app on my Wii U. It does a good enough job as a stopgap for what I want to accomplish, but finding a good XBMC device is first up on my list of priorities - even if it's something that'll cost up to $200 ish, since I figure the storage can come later (Have plenty of portable HDDs right now, and when we eventually get a house down the line that will transform into NAS running for the whole house.)

I believe this might help. I've never used Plex but I did some quick research and it looks like it's similar to the program in the link below. As long you have a mid range PC you should be able to stream to your PS3 or Xbox360. I have a friend who bought multiple 360s with broken disc drives and he uses them as HTPCs. You can usually find them for like $40-$75 where I live, which is pretty cheap for a HTPC that steams at 1080p and is able to do 5.1 audio.
Your video game console is great for playing games, but you might not realize it's also one of the best media centers around. Here's how to set up all

Another alternative is building a Raspberry Pi HTPC . It really cheap to build but its not very powerful. I believe your limited to 720p and Hulu doesn't work on it.
The best home theater PCs are small, quiet, and inexpensive—so the bite-size, $35 Raspberry Pi is the perfect choice. Here’s how to turn this little D

Finally if your going to build your own HTPC check out some of the AMD quad-core APUs. They pretty much outclass anything Intel currently offers for HTPCs since they have a built in GPU. They are pretty cheap for the price : performance ratio, and you'll be able to use it as a Steam Box machine as well. ;-)

I would give you more info but I don't have access to a PC at the moment. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

Appreciate it. Yeah, I can stream everything right now to the PS3 or the 360 but they just don't have the... fancy (not the proper word but it works)... front-end that I'm looking for.

I have the functionality currently, I'm just looking on increasing the UX. Not worried about gaming or anything else for it. Just a nice, simple dedicated XBMX/OpenELEC (most likely just going the OpenELEC route) box that will play 1080p (I know they all play 720 seamlessly) video, and be able to use different skins.

I may just end up ordering a ChromeBox and making it a stand-alone openELEC box. Don't have any need for the ChromeOS.

Back on the anime side of things: I never realized that there was a prequel/side-story of Soul Eater that was new. I need to get on watching that, I just finished up the first episode not too long ago.

I actually shed a tear watching today's episode of Hunter X Hunter. Madhouse has done an awesome job animating this series.

Still got to start that series. I tried .hack but really didn't like it too much.

Watched the Ao No Exorcist(Blue Exorcist) movie. Amazing visuals from A-1, complete with eye popping festival scenes. The story was sentimental, but the characters sold it. I have to get into the series as I'd rather check out the movie before getting into a full series. My next series to watch is Eureka Seven AO.

Try watching the first series if you haven't. You'll understand the story better.

Will do. The first time I saw Eureka Seven was years ago, and only a few episodes at that. I'm a sucker for good mecha with romance added in .

                    Hahaha.

It’s amazing how memory fades over time. Trying to recollect my favorite childhood programs is often a foggy mess. For example, I remember one cartoon where the good guys drove robot cars with arms and the bad guys were these weird plant cars. For the life of me I can’t remember the name of that show in spite of th ...

Shows like that were great but as they say, the true classics are the ones that stand the test of time. Surely Gundam, arguably the most famous giant robot anime, is among that class, right? Magazine R25 suggests it might not be. Despite Mobile Suit Gundam’s long legacy of series, R25 claims that 51 percent of Japanese men in their twenties who were surveyed said they “do not know Gundam.”

The original intention of the survey was to rank the various mobile suits in terms of which is the coolest, or which one you’d like to pilot. It was a part of the general 35th anniversary of the original broadcast of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series also known as First.

This is where the catch comes in: the survey was dealing only with the original series made 15 years before those in their 20’s were born. So it’s not to say that they’re completely oblivious to Gundam. They’re just not schooled enough on it to have a preference between a MS-05 Zaku and a RX-78-2.

I've never been one for figures/statuettes/etc. (mainly because I don't have room for them sadly)...

...But this Shiro (No Game No Life) figure that's available for pre-order is absolutely incredible. I may have to add it if I ever start a collection. There seems to be a ton of detail in it. However, if someone were to release a high-quality Akatsuki figure from Log Horizon, I'd find space for it.
