Yes, but the Canadian government could take away all your rights and you could do nothing about it because you do not have the right to form a militia or own firearms. In reality, you have no freedom, because it could all be taken away in the blink of an eye.

Re: Are College Campuses Really Safer Now?
If these people who came into college campuses looking to kill did not have guns, they would just use something else to achieve their goal anyways. Maybe they would come strolling into Virginia Tech with a bomb strapped to their back. Yeah, that sounds better, doesn't it...Comment

Re: Are College Campuses Really Safer Now?
Not a good point. Americans are more violent than the Canadians. If we had a magical wall and had no travel to Central or South America and there weren't millions of stolen guns on the market, then banning guns would make sense. Since we do have millions of firearms and drugs coming across the border and millions of stolen guns on the street, all you end up with is disarmed citizens. Again, banning guns in Baltimore, New York, DC, and LA did nothing.
Oh and as for drugs...Vancouver and Toronto are big drug centres (more so vancouver) so it's not like it's a foreign concept here.
Look at Amsterdam, they've got guns and legalized prostitution but I don't hear about people running around killing each other with guns the way it goes on in some parts of the US.
BTW when did LA, DC, Baltimore ban guns? I know NYC has done some stricter gun laws and they've actually WORKED! Violent crime in NYC has been the lowest in recorded history.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Are College Campuses Really Safer Now?
You think some guns would defend you against the US governement? lol... This isn't the year 1812 or something. Guns wouldn't do a single thing if the US government decided to take away your rights (which it has done in the past - ask Japanese Americans about the the 1940s).Comment

Re: Are College Campuses Really Safer Now?
That could never happen in Canada, we elect leaders who'd never go that far. I mean Stephen Harper's Conservatives are pretty far to the right in Canadian politics but they'd be centrists in US politics. The way our form of government is set up we could never fall into a dictator's hand. It hasn't happened in England and we have the exact same form of government for the most part.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Are College Campuses Really Safer Now?
You take away the guns of the citizens, and you've got yourself tyranny. Every citizen in this country has the right to obtain a weapon.
Without weapons, the citizens of a country have no control. With no control, the government has all the power. With all this power, you have tyranny.
You give up your weapons, and you have nothing.Comment

But the majority of people who have guns (legally), are probably Republicans and they unfortunately are aligned with a party right now that loves to take away liberties from us.Comment

I believe it's the Democrats that want Universal Health Care, take away our 2nd amendment rights, bring back the Fairness Doctrine...Comment

There's no way in hell the 2nd amendment will never change, at least for many many years. The Patriot Act took away many liberties and privacies and I saw that happen over the last 8 years.Comment
