Re: Are College Campuses Really Safer Now?
I don't see how people can be against it, even after you've said many things on how it's helped you SPTO. It just comes off that people don't care about others the way I think they should.Comment

Re: Are College Campuses Really Safer Now?
Canada's plan is not that horrible, though. At least you all have to choice to see a private doctor. With Hilary Clinton's plan, it would be a felony to see a private doctor. Now that is what I call a dictator...
I'm not saying I agree with the Patriot Act either. I don't think Bush was that great of a President. He was okay, but not a very good one. The last good President we had was Ronald Reagan IMO. And it looks like we are in for another 4-8 years of a mediocre to bad President...Comment

Well, if we get a Democrat House, Senate, and President, it may happen in a few years unfortunately. However, there is no way it will happen in 2008. Bush would surely veto any sort of bill and the Congress will not get a two-thirds majority, so it will not happen.Comment

That's why all the doctors in Canada come down to the States? They can make a lot more money down here. Plus, universal health care is ridiculously expensive and probably one reason why Canadian taxes are higher than the United States'.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Are College Campuses Really Safer Now?
The Supreme Court is finally hearing a case involving it, something to the best of the top of my head knowledge has not been previously done. There are two theories, one is that it will either be interpreted the way it is is written, meaning no individual rights to possess guns or it will be applied to the states through the 14th Amendment. This may surprise people, but the entire Bill of Rights does not apply to states and our individual rights. It is up to states to adopt the Amendments (very simplistically speaking). For example, the 7th Amendment right to a trial by jury in civil cases doesn't apply to the states.Comment

Re: Are College Campuses Really Safer Now?
I don't personally own any guns. My father has a couple shotguns, but that's about it.
I also never said I'd be one of the students carrying a gun. I have multiple friends who go to the gun range every weekend. Like I said....The one's who would be carrying on campus would have passed all the necessary tests needed to acquire a CCW permit.
Selective reading at it's finest
I simply asked a series of questions. I didn't even make any assumption or speak on your anticipated response, even though it was exactly what I expected it to be. As usual you're making lots of assumptions, generalizations and with conviction as if you are an authority. You don't own a gun but you know exactly what you'd do with it if you did. You'd easily be able to take a life... let alone aim it at a guy trying to take yours. Lets not forget, you just said you'd hang with all your friends who surely have claimed they do know what they'd do in these situations... hours at the shooting range and a little COD and Splinter Cell and you're in safe hands.
It's nothing about selective reading, you act as if it's easy to just stand up and shoot someone, ignoring the fact that it would be a chaotic situation with a group of people carrying guns who more than likely had not had any experience going through something like that but somehow they'll magically be able to make things better.
btw, I know quite a few people that have no license to carry, have never been to a shooting range and probably wouldn't even know how to get a gun legally, and I'd feel much safer around them than your boys. This isn't a rant against the NRA or support of illegal guns, it's just common sense. The chances of even one 18-21 year old college student put in that position while in class having a clue of what to do is between slim and none.Last edited by wwharton; 03-03-2008, 04:55 PM.Comment
