Re: Ok im late I know The Wire

Man, I've tried watching this series 3x now but I cannot get past the first 2 shows.
I've heard nothing but great things about this series, but the first couple of episodes are so boring, I never make it through.

I'm a huge HD snob so I think part of the problem is I can't find it on BR.

It actually doesn't look bad upconverted from the DVDs.

I think the thing that draws me in, aside from the characters, is that you basically see the innerworkings and different levels of each infrastructure that is part of the story. You have the politics of the police squad, their supervisors, and the judge, but then you're also shown this gang world that, for the most part, shares a lot of similarities with the other side.

Plus, this show doesn't cop out on being dramatized and instead goes for logical and realistic developments.

At the end of the day, though, no other show has Bunk and Greggs.

The Lego video sums up season 2 perfectly.

          What's up his ***?

No one likes our season, that's what.

The season had some good moments, but it just doesn't hold up being sandwiched between the 1st and 3rd(which I'm currently watching again for like the 6th time) seasons.

I'll probably order season 2 and three so I can have them for the weekend.

Best advice I can give you is suck it up. Just push through, like when you were a kid and couldn't leave the table till you plate was clean. Grit your teeth and force it down. The payoff is there, if you can make it.

Exactly. And the subtelty (sp? I hate IE at work). for the most part noone is completely good or bad. Everything is in figurative shades of grey. Everyone has their own motivations and qualities. Whenever I rewatch it I am shocked (still) at how well written the entire series is. I need to get the DVDs back from my friend so I can go through it again!

I really need to watch this again. I watched Season 1 and then half of Season 2, but I got busy and stopped watching it and never continued. I think this will be the next series I buy.

well since you just watched the first 2, then start watching from the 3rd ep. You keep missing the key episode of the whole series to get you hooked. It's not a fluke that most of the people in this thread make this the number one show ever for them.

I'm an HD snob too but I actually prefer it to be like the way it is because it ads to the experience, makes it more gritty.

Oh yeah, the third episode is the one that pulls the hook into the side of your mouth and gets ya.

The debut of Omar is a nice start to the episode, but Lester coming back with that poster of Avon really got me pumped for episode 4.

Yeah, Season 2 is the tough one to get thru. I remember when I first started watching The Wire, I kept asking myself and others on here, "Damn, how many more episodes are left so I can start Season 3?".

Once you get to Season 3, it's smooth sailing from there on out, my man.

And now after reading this thread, I suddenly have the urge to go back and watch this series from beginning to end...again.

I did the same thing, started it 3x, got through 1-2 episodes each time, and stopped. Eventually forced myself to get through it and now its by far my favorite show of all time.

First couple episodes are just tough because they are just introducing all these different characters, giving you a quick glimpse of them without knowing what any of it means. I've gone through the whole series now 3 times, and on 2nd and 3rd viewing I really liked the first couple of episodes.

And for me, season 2 was pretty much the same way, just for the whole season. First time through I didn't like it. But next time through, once I had a better idea of how everything fit together and why I was supposed to care about what was happening I loved it.

Yea after my 3rd watch of the series, I started to like season 2. Its not as boring as I first thought it was in my first watch through.

It gets better once you'll able to put everything together.
