Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
Yeah, once you get about 3 or 4 episodes in, everything clicks, the characters become "real" and the show picks up.
Then you have to make it through the first six episodes of season 2 (or so) and after that the show never really lets up again.Comment

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
I think I watched the first 2 episodes like 5 times. I kept starting the show, getting bored and not watching any more for awhile, and then months later trying to watch it again. There's just not a real hook in there to get you interested, you need time to see things unfold.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
The quote that I was referring to:
Insley explained, "When the show started 2001 / 2002 they framed it for 16 x 9 as a way of future-proofing. Then a couple of seasons ago, right before Season 4 began shooting, there was a big discussion about it and after much discussion -- David, Nina, Joe Chappelle, the Producers, the DPs -- and we discussed what should be the style of the show. David made the decision that we would stay with 4x3. The DPs pretty much defined the look to be what it is now. And it's been consistent for the past two seasons."My football alliances: E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles AND Hokie Hokie Hokie HiComment

I started watching during Season Five, so by the time I went back and watched season one-through-five, I already knew the ending and literally needed to see how it got to that point.Comment

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
The first three seasons were shot on film, and so they could be hd very easily. They were future proofed, but then Simon decided that he wanted the SD look and so the last two seasons were shot with something else. I'm not too good with the lingo, but that's my understanding. So if they wanted, the first 3 seasons would look great on HD and the last two would basically just be upconverted or something.

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
Justl finished rewatching the series for the second time and wanted to post some thoughts. The progression of this series was truly remarkable, it's rare that a series is as good, if not better, than they were at the very beginning of the series. The progression of characters like slim, carver, namond, and prez who would not be considered major players was amazing.
SpoilerSeeing Marlo achieve Stringers dream, yet give it all up to return to the corners because as he told Chris, "My name is my name" and just like Avon he cared more about his name ringing out on the streets than he did about money was pretty damn amazing.
Michael selling his soul in order to protect his brother only to lose him, the become the new Omar was gripping.
Bubs, my man bubs finally got to come out of the the basement.
Dukie, poor dukie
Bodie, died on his feet rather than on his knees.
Method man played the he'll out of cheese.
In case you could not tell I was a bigger fan of seasons 4 & 5 than I were of The earlier seasons.
Now a few awards:
- best actor: bubs
- most surprising actor: method man/ cheese
- best rant: (tie) "you do not get to win" Carver in season 4 and "my name is my name " Marlo in season 5
- best storyline: the school kids season 4
- worst storyline: the newspaper season 5
- most shocking moment: Omar gets shot by kenard
- underrated storyline: "hamsterdam" season 3
- saddest storyline: Wallace gets shot
- top five charactersit changes so much)
1. Marlo
2. Bodie
3. Bunk
4. Chris
5. CarverLast edited by Slymm; 02-02-2011, 06:34 PM.Favorite Teams:

Lots of people havent watched or just started on this amazing series. You may want to throw spoiler tags up. You are giving away a lot of the end of the series to those that may not be there yet.Moderator

ahh, I thought if a show had aired after a certain amount of time we didn't need spoiler tags in a thread. How do you do tags?Favorite Teams:

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
So what's with baltimore being 10 years behind on technology on this show? The whole first season I thought it was taking place in the mid or late 90s because they were using typewriters and old computers. Then the next season the drug dealers are bumping 50 cent and other modern rap. Then the next scene a cop has to use a payphone.Comment
