The Shield: Final Act (Season 7) Discussion

    Starts in September, can't wait.

I didn't notice, but all seasons of The Shield have been re-released on DVD as of March 08 with widescreen transfers. I guess the previous season box sets were in fullscreen. I purchased season 1 on DVD today and it looks much better in widescreen than it did when I owned the previous boxset last year.

I was trying to holdout for Blu-ray, but that could be a long time for these.

It's funny you bring this show back up, last night I got drunk and was viewing some of the scenes from this guy's gallery. If you're a Shield fan you owe it to yourself to check out some of his work. It's incredible.

Ya, it's just not the same without Lem. Was it that he just wanted off the show to pursue other things? From where it left off, it just looks like this thing is gonna end badly.

Not at all man, he did NOT want to leave the show, i watched the video on the DVD (the most recent one out whatever that is) and he actually was pretty torn up about leaving the show but ultimately was convinced it was what had to be done.

Any Shield fan owes it to himself to get that DVD and watch that featurette on the making of the death of Lem. Very, very powerful and interesting 45 minutes or so. It was interesting to me too to see just how much input the actors have. I always just thought it was all Shawn Ryan's writing but the actors have a helluva lot of input too, especially the guy playing Shane.

I think that's what makes the show so great. Lem didn't want to leave the show nor was there any ill will on either side. They just did it. Killing off a popular character was a huge shock and got me more interested in watching to see how this storyline is going to evolve. I mean who doesn't want to see how the Shane-Vic saga ends? I know I do.

I definitly looking forward to it. I think the new WS transfers are interesting because I thought the show was shot fullscreen because it was on TV Maybe because more people are getting FX HD?

Unless things have changed The Shield is shot on 16 millimeter film, so Blu-ray wouldn't be a big bonus other then to give you a sharper picture than your FX connection, but probably no better than standard DVD. Shawn Ryan, the creator of The Shield, wanted to give the show a documentary style and to shoot it "not as pretty as we could".

That's probably why it looks like Cops or whatever, in that you are really there with a cameraman and not like a typical tv cop show like Law & Order or whatnot.

1 week guys. I gotta say its been so long that I have lost some interest. I always hate final seasons. So bitter sweet. I hope its good. I think Vic is just going to end up going freakin insane.

i know about the interest thing but that should change about 5 minutes into the show next week I think.. they should have brought this back about 4 months ago IMO!!
