Thank you for that. Now that explains what I hinted to about in my previous post about something similar happening in the entertainment world a few years back with Shane and his = Chris Benoit tragedy. That still brings up bad taste in my mouth, and wish they never went that route. During that scene, that is all I kept on thinking about. I think some things just scar us for life.

It's a great show, but I didn't care for the ending or the finale in general.Comment

Re: The Shield: Final Act (Season 7) Discussion
Just finished watching the finale on DVR. Amazing ending to one of the best series in television. Vic has nothing left, no friends, no family, and a job that is his own personal living hell. I got a chuckle out of actually seeing him in a suit though.
The scene where they arrested Ronnie was excellent. Usually don't see Ronnie get that emotional, but seeing him blow up in Vic's face was awesome.
Sad to see the series go though.I'm definitely going to end up re-watching the entire series in the coming months.

I watched last night as well. It really was a amazing ending. I guess you can say Vic got what he deserved. Very sad about Shane Killing his own family before himself. I think Walter Goggins(Shane) really acted the man going off the edge perfectly. I think Vic played the end with the perfect amount of emotion. Between this and the Wire now being over what else can we watch? Nothing else really even comes close.follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/eton_riflesComment

Re: The Shield: Final Act (Season 7) Discussion
First of all let me just say that it's taken me a full day to compose my thoughts to write this. Actually talking about it is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do when it comes to discussing a tv show. I watched every minute last night with a sickening certainty of how it was all going to end, one character's hell a bit more twisted than the previous ones. Akin to watching a slow motion car wreck it was both sickening and yet curious enough that one could not look away, worse yet I could not hope to choose to end dwelling on each character's particular macabre fate hours after the televisions light had grown dim.
Shane's particular demise was compelling in more ways than one because of the fact that, as previously mentioned, we have all heard of the Chris Benoit tragedy, but it was also made more difficult to watch knowing that Walter Goggins wife had actually killed herself. To try to imagine how difficult those scenes must have been for Walter was unfathomable. I think we all saw this particular ending coming, although some of us harbored hopes that Shane would do the right thing and only kill himself and not his entire family but after Mara shot that woman then her fate and the children's fate was sealed. A coward's way out made all the more gruesome by his refusal to allow his loved ones to escape him, even in death.
Ronnie's ending was devastating on so many levels. First of all, for him to end up with the only person facing justice in a court of law was perverted on so many levels considering he was, since Lem's murder, the least corrupt of the group and the one person who was truly a follower. To see him put forth such emotion at his betrayal, one he never saw coming was truly Shakespearan. When Vic walked away and you could see Ronnie raging against those police officers in the background, well it's truly a scene that will haunt me for many days and one that I cannot put out of my head.
Vic's sentence, although on the surface the lightest of the three, was perhaps of all three the most heinous and wicked. To put an alpha male hunter in the position of a neutered, bureaucratic, yes-man was probably the worst fate anyone could ever bestow upon the man who prowled the streets of Farmington as the all-powerful, untouchable predator with a badge. For those who say they didn't like the fact he "got away with it", he absolutely got away with nothing, he lost everything, his most important things being his family and his shield, the source of all of his power and reason for being. Of the four original characters Vic, because of who he is, got stuck with the worst ending, and rightfully so, having to exist in some sort of purgatory, twilight ending to his life, alone and defeated. At least in prison he could have had control over his fate, some sort of way of his inner-predator existing and perhaps even for a brief while thriving. Instead he was sentenced to a solitary existence under the slow and quiet hum of fluorescent lights, encaged in some sort of modern day non-existence.
I am somewhat taken aback by how deeply this finale has bothered me. I have always had an emotional investment in this show but I never believed the finale could be so terrible, so tragic, so beautifully poetic and so perfect that it would eat away at my soul and stick with me for, so far anyways, an entire day. I will post my thoughts on the rest of the characters and the plot later but for now I need a beer...Last edited by ODogg; 11-26-2008, 09:22 PM.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Not at all Dog, the finale itself was a buzzkill for me. This has been a superb series and probably a lot of the stuff had to happen, but I just didn't want it to. My preferred scenario would have been Vic putting Shane's head in a vise with his eyeballs popping out, and Vic and Ronny escaping to Mexico.Comment

Re: The Shield: Final Act (Season 7) Discussion
Hey all, over the past weekend I fired up Season 1 and watched every bit of it in a massive The Shield marathon. I'd highly recommend all of you do the same as it's really cool to re-watch the earlier episodes now and see the foreshadowing involved. Unlike a lot of movie trilogies (Star Wars anyone) and tv series it's pretty clear that Shawn Ryan knew all along the direction he would be taking Vic and the Strike Team.
It's just phenomenal watching it all happen again and picking up on things. I'm halfway through season 2 and just as happy as a hog in a pen of mud.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
