First of all, I don't think everyone's opinions are equal on music. I'm not saying that mine is better than yours but some are better than other's. I'm sorry, but I think pharrell or Dr. Dre's opinion on Hip-Hop than mine or yours.

Also, I'm going to say this. This is just my opinion, but in my opinion, I think outside of Outkast and TI, most southern rap (and rap that tries to sound southern) is trash. Obviously this is just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I just don't see what the hype is all about.

If you were to literally assess Lil Wayne as a rapper on the following topics, he would be extremely average.

        Flow
        Subject Matter
        Metaphors and Similes
        Personification
        Syntax
        Delivery
        Theme/Thesis

I grade rappers like I was taught how to grade poets when I was in English. They are wayyyy better rappers out there than Lil Wayne. If you seriously take a close look at him without assuming he's the greatest rapper ever, you will come away underwhelmed.

Didn't notice that. Only caught on to Breaking Benjamin when they did the song for Halo 2.

If it seemed like I was going at you personally, I was addressing everyone in the thread. The not liking him because he's mainstream was directed at you (since I don't even listen to underground music.

That is where the "*****" part comes in.

I'm not giving anyone flack for liking him or looking for motives behind it. In fact, if anything, I am trying to understand why he is considered so great because he sucks imo.

The point of my thread was that someone can simply dislike Wayne based on the music alone. Not because he is mainstream, and not because they are a "*****".

and why do you think that their opinions are better than everyone else's? maybe its because they are well established because people like you and me think they are.(are opinions) at one time or another they were average joes until we came to the conclusion that they were not.

btw you forgot about Ludacris, the best rapper alive or dead.(my opinion)

Well that is your opinion, but I would suggests that you listen to a greater variety of "southern" rap to have a more educated opinion.

throw some names out there...I've bet I've heard a lot of them. I have Sirius radio and I listen almost exclusively to the hip-hop stations so I hear pretty much all of the mainstream rap out there.

Say what you what you want about the artists in the south, but they basically own the game right now...and are the only ones moving units and selling records..

If the goal is to make money and move units, then they have conquered the "formula".

LOL what is it about then?? no quotations\formula about it...
You make songs in your basement and distribute it to your friends if you just have a passion for music and want to share your work...

You get in the game to do some of the former but mainly to make money, move units.

Ghostface is on YouTube begging for people to buy his record right now...its sad man...but it is what it is...shoot I hate the stuff on the radio- but I give credit where credit is due..those guys are capitolizing..and making way more than "a little bit of money"

It's about making money while doing something original. If you have to sell your creative soul to the devil and do whatever it takes to make money, it's never worth it. In 10 years, you think anybody will give a damn about Lil Wayne?

Im not sure, but im going to assume Wayne would prefer having money in the bank as opposed to being relevant\remembered in 10 years....

But to answer your question, naw I dont think so....b\c like I said in my last post..Ghostface is forgotten obviously, and hes about as original as you can get...now hes bartering for record sales...

Ghostface is a major part of arguably the two best rap albums of all time, and has 1 fewer platinum album than Lil Wayne.

Lil Wayne is the flavor of the month. Before him there was Soulja Boy, the Mike Jones/Paul Wall/Slim Thug group of clowns, G-Unit, and then we're right back to the Big Tymers and Hot Boys.
