Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Alright let's have some fun. Post your unpopular rap music opinions. Be it a popular artists that you don't like or an album you can't get down with that is widely praised. Whatever it may be, state your opinions.
I'll start with some newer artists that are overrated and not worth the hype they receive.
Wale
J. Cole
Big Sean
Asap Rocky
But yeah,
-RAWSE! - Port of Miami was tough from beginning to end but everything else since then has underwhelming. God Forgives, I Don't was decent though.
-Big Sean - Flow is boring, lyrics are ehhh...why is dude hyped up again?
-The R.E.D Album is an underrated album. The production on there was just ridiculous(in a good way)
-Backpack/Attention: Deficit Wale > MMG Wale
-Pre MMG Meek Mill > MMG Meek Mill(but most people already know this so I probably could've left this off)#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Wale - Music has no replay value. Comes off corny and over emotional.
J. Cole - His music should come with a Tempur-Pedic bed. Puts me to sleep.
Big Sean - Once you get passed his annoying voice, you realize his music has zero substance.
Asap Rocky - Basic. Has no identity to call his own.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
terrible...boring...wooooow!! i admit he does absolutely nothing for me now...but man from like '96-'03 or so...jay was LEGEND! jay was instant cop status the day it dropped without even hearing a song yet. he was the only rapper that had me going to buy his cd's...cuz any other time it was to buy a 50pk of cd-r's
as far as me and my unpopular opinion:
-i think wale is wack and all the rest of mmg (beats/prod are good tho)
-i dont get meek mill hype and never have...although i respect the long grind.
-i think lupe past food and liquor is trash
-i also hated watch the throne. felt it was overproduced "noise". didnt even d/l it for free after listening to it all
-kanye past graduation is trash (except maybe a verse or 3)
-eminem is garbage past the eminem show
-wiz khalifa makes good music, esp when with curren$y. and old wiz = new wiz - increasingly funky wardrobe
-curren$y is top 10 in the game since '08/'09
-max b is the greatest most versatile rapper in the game since '06 and can murder ANY beat from any time period and had the hardest grind b4 getting wrapped up a few yrs ago. curren$y even admitted to stealing max's work ethic cuz he saw how it touched the fans and help keep consistent music out thereLets Go:

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I'm a big fan of K'naan. I don't know if that's unpopular as much as he just isn't really talked about much, but I can't get enough of him.
And I don't get the love for Meek Mill or the freaking people here at school that love Mac Miller and 2 Chainz.
Wiz is extremely hit or miss for me. All his songs basically talk about the same couple of things and it gets repetitive quickly, but every once in awhile he comes out with something that I like.NFL: Bills
NBA: Bucks
MLB: Cubs
NCAA: Syracuse
Soccer: USMNT/DC United

Yes! ^ I agree with the Eminem part.
That dude constantly sounds upset and angry, perhaps he's constipated.
Not many fans of Wale in here, eh? Well, MMG Wale I should say.Comment

Eminem does nothing for me post Marshall Mathers LP
Lupe had one great album FandL, one passable album The Cool, and is unlistenable to me otherwise.

Some more...
2Pac is the most gassed rapper of all time. I could count the number of songs I like form him on 1 hand.
Not only is Jay-Z the best rapper from NY, but he is also the greatest of all time. He would have 9 classic albums if it wasn't for Blueprint 2 being a double CD.
The Slim Shady LP is Eminem's only album that's any good. Never mind a classic album, he doesn't even possess a classic song.
The advance copy of Food & Liquor is better than the retail. Also, The Cool is Lupe's best album.
No top 5 greatest rappers of all time list that isn't occupied by at least 3 artists from NY is null and void.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
The Cool was better than Food & Liquor
Late Registration was Kanye's best album (College Dropout being a close second)
Watch the Throne and MBDTF were both trash aside from a couple of songs
Big Sean is terrible
2 Chainz and Waka Flocka are two of the worst rappers out there.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

i agree with ur illmatic sentiments....yea i gota say thats one my unpopular opinions i overlooked. i dont really think illmatic is a classic. maybe just the sound of it....it def gives that ny vibe i loved so much growing up but thats where my love ends. back in like 94/95 i was feeling mobb deep infamous or even tical or enter the 36 chambers way better than illmatic. id have to say Nas I am or even stillmatic is better than illmatic. not to mention is short as hell too.
as far as 2000s > than 90's ....boi stop. all i say to that is 90's new york and 90's west coast. im sorry but this is undebateable imho. pac, biggie, wu tang, mobb deep, nas, jayz, dogg pound, snoop, dre, outkast, lost boyz, grand puba, bone, eazy e, mc eiht, dj quik, guru, goodie mob, big L, junior mafia, all the no limit camp(thats like 100 ppl haha) ....thats enough...dont even need to go on....thats plenty to kill that 2000s is greater noise.Last edited by MMurda; 09-07-2012, 06:13 PM.Lets Go:
