Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

I finally got a listen of the Macklemore album and wow. Sold me on the first listen. Wasn't one of those albums where I had to listen to it 3 or 4 times before I reach a conclusion on how good it is. It's good. Real good.

This might be my vote for album of the year. IMO there isn't one skippable track on it. In fact, I feel like the entire album has at least one or two things anybody or any fan of any genre can relate to. I put this into my rare category of albums that transcend the genre, albums that break molds and barriers and could end up in the rotation of the least likely of people. The "I don't even like rap music, BUT I like _____" people.

There's something very calm and soothing about his voice, which isn't something I really ever think about when I listen to someone rap. It sort of reminds me of a little Everlast mixed with Brother Ali. To go with that, the production on the album is top notch. Nothing sounds forced. I'm used to hearing guys who are on the come up that try to dabble in a little bit of everything and stick to a formula. They have to have a couple potential radio hits, they have to have posse cuts with some other young, hip artists, they have to have a couple deep joints, anything to appeal to anyone. Not this. This is just 18 tracks of self expression. It's art. It's EXCELLENT listening music. Maybe not necessarily something you ride through the hood on full blast with your trunk rattling, but something you'd put on for a road trip or when you just want to lay back and drift away.

Previously, I had one friend who had me listen to The Otherside a couple years ago, which I enjoyed. I youtubed a couple of other songs and he didn't really stand out much more to me. But apparently I've been sleeping.

Is this your first time ever?

If so, then I suggest you to dig up all of his older mixtapes.

I feel like a lot of rappers go soft once they go to prison, and that happened to Cassidy. Anything pre-prison is dope. This is probably my favorite Cassidy cut, just for originality:

That is my favorite Cass song. Who else battled their self on a song before.

But, he did go soft. He is predictable and seems to try to hard at times.

A lot of hype surrounding that Gucci diss track. I on the other hand didn't think it was all that great. As long as this "beef" stays in the studio (which it probably will anyways), I'm all for it. Hope Jeezy responds.

Cover sucks and knowing Joe's history with releasing music, we'll be lucky to have it by Christmas.
