I'm not sure if we listened to the same album because Control System definitely has its share of thought provoking lyrics. It's not a philosophy book put on a CD but it's better than a lot of what has been put out. Tracks like Terrorist Threats, Double Standards, Illuminate, Beautiful Death and especially Book of Soul might be what you're looking for. Maybe on a second listen you'll pick up some of the lines you missed because this really is an excellent album!

Yeah, I mean I heard the line like "we talk about Amber Cole, but not the other dude" but I mean, that's common knowledge. Like he had me believing he had some deep, insightful stuff to say, then I heard some of it, and just went "That's all? I could've told you that". As I've said, I haven't listened to Ab Soul before, so going into this the only things I had to go on were his name, title of album, and the fact that this was top 5 album of the year for Aero.

Going to give some different artists a go for the time being, but I'll give this another spin in a few days, and maybe on my second go around I'll at least be able to say, "Mission accomplished".

I gave Control System a spin. I was let down. Ab Soul had me fooled, I thought (because of his name, and title of the album) that this would be some deep introspective album, or something with sophisticated lyricism, but it was just average lyrics with a good beat. I stopped 9 songs in for what it's worth.

Going to give Action Bronson a whirl now.

Dont give up yet. Black Lip Bastard near the end of the cd is the ish.

That's good as I still bump that album on my trips between FSU and Tampa. Granted i'm just stubborn and too lazy to download new music or to try out new artists, will have to check this one out
