Has anyone here listened to that album? Thoughts?

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

Tried sitting thru the whole thing once and have heard various songs here and there. His music isn't for me. I'll always view him as what Slug would have been back in the day, only a less talented version.

Not saying his album doesn't serve a Grammy. I understand why so many like his music. He deserves all the praise he has received over the past 12 months.

My point was more about people complaining when it happens. Calling him not hip hop and all that. Looking forward to it for the all the laughs I'll get out of it. Cause you know parts of the web are going to bitch.

Not just parts, probably all of the hip hop crowd is going to bitch.

Macklemore has more pop appeal than Hip Hop appeal, mainly because of his image and the content of his music, which seems to be more positive and uplifting.

Don't let anyone else from Seattle hear this, but I really just don't like Macklemore. I'm pumped for him given that he's from here and reps Seattle all the time, but just not a fan. Happy that he has made it, though.

My mention of Slug earlier reminded me to post this joint. One of the greatest hip hop songs of all time. No debate.

In regards to Seattle artists, I'd much rather bump Eighty4Fly

                        Love his video, "Faded."

Macklemore definitely isn't for everyone. I love his stuff, but I can see why others don't. But Seattle hip-hop is filthy right now. So many good acts out there:

                        Blue Scholars
                        Sol
                        Dyme Def
                        Eighty4Fly
                        Fresh Espresso
                        The Physics
                        Nacho Picasso
                        RA Scion

I know I'm forgetting a few too. There's not a "Seattle sound" which is cool and allows a lot of different acts to pop up there.

It's nice to see someone else say something about Blue Scholars, too. I haven't seen anyone other than me mention them on here since the underground thread was in its heyday.

Blue Scholars were probably the most popular Seattle based group in my group of friends in high school.
